New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Diane von Furstenberg

I always come away from a Diane von Furstenberg show (ok, ok, a DvF "picture viewing") with more ideas than both my head and wallet can handle: tons of hair accessory inspiration, the sudden urge mix patterns without abandon, and perhaps most notably, a completely overstuffed wish list. Her Spring/Summer 2010 show at New York Fashion Week was no exception- the looks presented a highly wearable, more elegant take on globetrotter style with looks ranging from printed dresses layered under belted safari jackets to saturated desert-hued separates in a variety of textures, all topped off with colorful bangles and the most playfully whimsical hairpieces. Her use of patterns was astoundingly imaginative- blurry florals, gilded ethnic designs, and slightly abstract animal prints made for a collection that was adventurous and refined all at once, not to mention realistic-- whether intentional or not, the idea of layering a simple grey tee under an embellished dress exhibits the kind of stylish versatility we can all appreciate these days. Stylehive's Stylescopes Bring Out Your Sense Of Adventure, ...

Last winter and spring, we saw belted trenches all over the place, and we were definitely diggin' the Sherlock-Holmes-gone-chic look. Rather than going out of style or retiring to the closet hangers due to the passing seasons, the khaki hues and cinched coats have instead been modified to adapt to the warm weather, bringing a bevy of new styles that are more reminiscent of a stylish safari chick than an undercover sleuth. Whether or not you're actually as adventurous as these savannah-inspired styles might suggest, you don't have to be Indiana Jones' new sidekick-in-training to rock the summery safari look -- it's simply written in the stars! Tauruses can add shape to their waist with a breathable belted cotton vest and Pisces ladies will feel breezy in a posh pair of long khaki shorts. Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Golden Girl

Looking to add some sparkle to dreary fall days? A touch of gold can do wonders, but don't think you're limited to heavy jewelry and blinding metallics. Forget excessive sequins and shine- this season, gold presents itself a bit more softly, with undertones that shimmer rather than reflect. The result? A muted shade similar to champagne, with a dusty, matte-like finish. Statement shoes are given a twist of elegance when done in rose gold, while a watch in a subtle shade doubles as jewelry that can be worn year-round. A dusting of gold shadow on the eyelids instantly brightens the complexion, and a light gold nail color is a subtle alternative to clear or pink tips. In the market for a gold handbag? Try a bag in a dusty shade like Yves Saint Laurent's 'Besace' messenger, and you can be sure the shine won't burn out before the season's end. Go to Elle's Fall A to Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and check out the slideshow for more golden finds.
