New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Rebecca Taylor

    image

Bright colors, edgy metallics and fluid lines seem to be the theme this year at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010, and Rebecca Taylor's collection on day five was one of our favorites, showcasing a variety of sweetly feminine and totally modern takes on this year's current and upcoming trends. Shiny silvers, asymmetrical ruffles and girly floral prints were punctuated with exaggerated silhouettes, giving the runway a flirty look that reminded one of a nautical space-age. Looser fits were contrasted by body-con dresses and legs were all over the place in pouf and pencil minis, tailored shorts and satin sheaths, giving the models a look of cabana-chic. Check out the slideshow to see more Rebecca Taylor favorites from her Spring/ Summer 2010 runway collection!

Graduation Dresses That Are Too Cute To Be Covered By Your ...

If I had to pick one of the most unfashionable inventions ever, it's the graduation gown. Forcing kids to wear them on their big special day just seems like a cruel and unusual tradition that will never die. Sure, it makes your entire class look uniform like a big army of ants or a school of fish (depending on what horrendous color of the rainbow you're forced to don for the sake of school spirit), but it's just not the cutest way to embark upon the next chapter of your life. The only way to somewhat make up for this tragically dowdy damper of Grad Day joy is to ensure that what you're wearing underneath your gown is cute and festive enough to have you ready for the post-ceremony celebrations in one second flat (because that's how quickly you'll be disposing of that frumpy sheath)! Whether your style is fun and floral for a summery morning commencement and brunch to follow, done-up and dramatic for a momentous evening occasion and post-party, or casual-cool for your small artsy school, I've found plenty of graduation dresses that will help you start your summer right, diploma in hand (and won't make you look even bulkier under that gown)! Check out the slideshow for some of my favorite commencement day frocks!

Easter Dresses In Pretty Pastels And Springtime Florals ...

One would think that growing up Catholic would automatically give me a fierce aversion to all Easter occasion clothing, given all my unpleasant childhood memories of being forced into a yearly festive ensemble -- complete with an itchy tulle dress, lace gloves, a ridiculous straw hat, and too-tight Mary Janes -- and basically fidgeting through church looking like a human doily. However, now that I'm old enough to dress myself (or rather, sensible enough to pick out my own family occasion-appropriate attire), I can't help but adore all the quintessential Easter prints, palettes, and ruffles that allow you to combine all things girlie and flirty without looking strangely out of character or like you were dressed by your grandma. Whether you need a more conservative option like a boat-neck tie-waisted dress by Anne Klein for a full-on holiday celebration with the church-going fam, or don't celebrate the occasion at all and are just looking for a fun floral print like a flirty chiffon mini dress from Forever 21, the possibilities are endless when you pair with a cardigan for extra coverage when needed, or change from flats to heels to go from day to night. Check out the slideshow for some of my favorite springy sheaths for this Easter season!

Feel Pretty Like Maria With Looks Inspired By West Side ...

Everything that€™s old is new again! West Side Story has gone from Broadway to the big screen and now back onstage in 2009. The epic love story set in the 1950s takes us through the journey of two star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria. They find themselves caught between two rival street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds, the Jets and the Sharks. Get ready for the big revival by getting the ladylike retro looks with a little bit of "cha cha" flair. While you can go the vintage route and get some petticoats and vintage cocktail dresses, there are also plenty of contemporary options that will meld seamlessly with your current wardrobe. Candy colors, nipped-in waists and ruffles help you get a little Latina spring in your step. Try a swingy knee-length dress with a pretty bow clutch and some colorful bangles for a totally Maria-esque look. Scared to go all out? When worn with jeans, a ruffled blouse topped with a colorful cardigan all cinched by a modern belt is a great way to dabble in the look. Still too much? Pair a flared full skirt in a bright color with a simple white tank. Check out the slideshow for some caliente picks and see the musical starting March 19th at the Palace Theatre in NYC!
