    Influential International Style: Charlotte Casiraghi

    image

If there was one icon I could choose to dress exactly like, Princess Charlotte Casiraghi would be it. The girl has it going on - royal pedigree, killer style, and hey, she's an editor-in-chief of Above magazine. Her style can be described as classically tailored, yet with a flair for rock and roll details. Whether she's rocking skinny jeans and boots, and a gorgeous scarf, or making a public appearance in a fabulous black dress with lace detailing, she can make any outfit look spectacular. Having a busy day? Channel Charlotte and pick up your hair in a messy bun, and wrap a scarf like crazy around your neck over a simple t-shirt. Voila! You have a fabulous outfit... and didn't even have to wash your hair. Check out my slideshow for some style tips from the royal herself! Photo credit: PR Photos

Live Like A Queen (Or King) At Turkey's Mardan Palace

In Antalya, Turkey, a beautiful city surrounded by mountains that sits right on the Mediterranean coast, there lies a resort fit for a king. Mardan Palace was made for those rolling in riches, and every penny has been invested into the development of such indulgent design that its majesty defies reality. And what better a location for such a world-class resort than Antalya, a city known for its proximity to great skiing, hiking, and shipwreck exploring as well as its important role in the history of the Greek, Roman, and Ottoman empires. The hotel boasts its own coral reef and lagoon, a spa so sweet it will make you salivate, and a vast swimming pool that appears bigger in area than the resort itself. Each room caters to this marvelous location with a view of either the Mediterranean Sea, the Taurus Mountain Range, or the pool encapsulated by a series of ornamented bridges. As if the beautiful view weren't enough, guests enjoy toiletries by Hermes and a 24-hour butler service. Excursions alone could occupy your entire stay, but guests are also entertained by 24 different spots within the resort to enjoy some luxury food and libations, including one with an all vegetarian menu, one with windows made of tropical fishtanks, one within the Palace's own waterfall, and one situated on the rooftop. It's a shame I've spent most of my lifetime without having considered Turkey an instinctual travel destination: It's now reached the top of my list! Influential International Style: Kate Middleton

After doing some research by watching "The Prince & Me" with Julia Stiles (yeah right, you know I was just channel surfing!), I can say that I have a better idea of what Kate Middleton's life must feel like. Known as "Waity Katie" to the British tabloids, Kate Middleton has been seeing Will Windsor, ahem, Prince William of Wales, on and off (mostly on) since meeting in 2001 at St. Andrew's University. However, she's on our radar for her fabulous style and grace in what must be something akin to Britney Spears' three-ring circus. At every public event, nay, with her every move, she is followed by photographers, and Middleton looks effortlessly chic in everything from ball gowns to her everyday mix of High Street and designer fashions. Hints: Keep it classic, yet youthful, and flirty, yet careful. Check out my slideshow for how to make your style like a would-be royal!

Jewelry Class: Alexandrite a Worthy Upstart in the World of ...

    image
Tanya on Aug 30, 2008 12:18 PM PDT
In the far-reaching history of gemstones in jewelry, alexandrite is one of the "newer" stones, having been discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 1830s and named for Czar Alexander II at his coming of age ceremony; other gems such as turquoise, rubies, and pearls, have deeply ancient roots. So what's so exciting about relative newcomer alexandrite, affectionately called "alex" by many jewelers? For starters, it's truly scarce: natural alexandrite is extremely rare, especially in sizes over one carat. But the most fascinating aspect of this gem is its color-change characteristic, with the best quality stones displaying a brilliant verdant green in sunlight or fluorescent light and shifting to a remarkably rich red in incandescent light or candlelight; lesser quality stones are still unusually lovely, showing blue-green in fluorescent light and plummy purple in incandescent light. Read on for more on how to tell real from fake, and click my SLIDESHOW for some more of the amazing Alex!
