Dress Like A Rock Star With Denim Of Virtue

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 17, 2009 5:18 AM PST
Inside all of us is a rock star waiting to get out -- a leather jacket-toting, torn-up jeans-wearing, utterly fabulous rock star. Thanks to Denim of Virtue, the time has never been better to embrace this inner desire. This rock star image was the first thing that came to mind upon viewing the Denim of Virtue collection. An array of distressed jean selections, each one was more stage-worthy than the next. The denim even comes in varying levels of distressing, catering to a wide variety of consumers. There's the subtle collection, boasting boyfriend, skinny and wide-leg jeans with only a hint of wear-and-tear. The second is the moderate collection, where skinny jeans show more tailored signs of distress. And finally, there is the extreme, where 90s punk rears its head in the form of carefully placed holes that decorate skinny jeans. Wearable Neon Makeup Shades, No Rave Required

While we've thankfully moved past that '90s flashback of fluorescent clothing and accessories, it's important to note that neons haven't been banished from the planet for good -- they've just relocated to the beauty department! I know, the idea sounds terrifying, but used with the right shades and a subtle hand, bright pops of color are an emerging makeup trend that's making feminine features stand out in a feisty, fresh and modern way. While trying to shed her goody-goody Gossip Girl stereotype and make a name for herself as her punk band's frontwoman, Taylor Momsen has been spotted flaunting neon lips and smoky eyes -- but you don't have to be a rock goddess in training to pull it off. Sticking to one feature at a time, you can go with an electric blue eyeliner to make your peepers pop, or highlight your summer tan with contrasting tangerine nails, for example. Take a look at the slideshow for some wearable neon shades!

Hot In The Hive: Dominic Jones Jewelry

With stars like Rihanna leading the gothic, punk style trend and edgy vampires popping up as sex symbols everywhere from Twilight to True Blood, it's no surprise that designers have taken clothing and accessories to the next level. We're seeing metallic studs and points and shiny materials like patent leather and finished georgettes as added details of choice. Reds, blacks and greys are the new backdrops and blood red lips and pale, pale complexions are gracing the runways. One designer to jump on the "sexy-vampire" band-wagon? Dominic Jones. Jones' designs are right on with the current edgy, rocker, "don't get too close or I'll suck your blood" craze, but still makes it his own. Take his black and gold "fangs belt" for example. Black belts are nothing new, but the gold fangs meeting in the middle definitely make it different! The great thing about this belt is that you can wear it to amp up a simple sheath dress and add some attitude into your look, and then lend it to your crazy, over-the-top, super-trendy younger sister to wear over her slashed leggings and oversized tees.

Go Rock 'N Roll Glamorous With Heavy Metal Eyes

The spring runway shows left me thoroughly confused with all the different makeup trends. From bright colors to harsh 80's eyes, natural looks to metallic, Spring '09 brought us a lot of variety and lots of options. But by far the easiest and most flattering look was the metallic eye. Perfect for day or night, it can subtly sparkly and natural or sexy and smoky. One of my favorites was the wide-eyed look at Donna Karan. A beige to natural palette in gold and silver on eyelids paired with mile-long lashes gave the models an upscale yet natural look. Adding a warm coppery gold in the creases and a dusting of lighter shadow in the inside corners makes the eyes appear larger and more awake. When your eyes are sparkly like a disco ball, be sure to keep the rest of the face neutral. A touch of foundation and a terracotta blush is just enough to make skin look flawless and perfect. Finish it all off with a swipe of nude lipstick or gloss. The look will pair perfectly with all the beige and metallic clothes that dominated the runways. Take a look at the slideshow for some products that can help you perfect the look yourself!
