Chic For Cheap: 20 Rockstar Looks for Under $20!

Flipping through magazines like Vogue, W, or Harper's Bazaar always seems to leave me wanting. They always showcase lust-inducing fashion and accessories that I wish, wish, wish were in my own closets and drawers. I flip through a few pages of a featured photoshoot and inevitably spot something (or many things) that I don't think I could possibly live without! I eagerly focus my attention on the fine print in the corner that tells you the item, where it can be found, and the price. The price kills me every time. Half a years rent for that soft, Italian leather satchel? I'm sure it's smooth as butter, but I can't sleep in it. Are those killer stilettos worth going without electricity and water for a few months? Almost, but not quite. I haven't gone that insane yet! But that little bit of logic is not enough for me to just let it go and forget about it. Lately, all the magazines have been showing rocker-inspired clothing and accessories that I'm sure I could pull off if only I had the funds. Chains, metallic hardware, black and white contrasting details, filigree designs - all beautiful and all outside my budget. But I will not be disheartened! The budget fashionista loves and appreciates high-end designers, but knows that an endless supply of money doesn't equal a great fashion sense and a limited budget doesn't mean you have to only have second-rate, un-trendy ensembles. Check out the slideshow to see how to incorporate the rocker-glam look into your closet without having to break open the piggy bank!

Wearable Neon Makeup Shades, No Rave Required

    image

While we've thankfully moved past that '90s flashback of fluorescent clothing and accessories, it's important to note that neons haven't been banished from the planet for good -- they've just relocated to the beauty department! I know, the idea sounds terrifying, but used with the right shades and a subtle hand, bright pops of color are an emerging makeup trend that's making feminine features stand out in a feisty, fresh and modern way. While trying to shed her goody-goody Gossip Girl stereotype and make a name for herself as her punk band's frontwoman, Taylor Momsen has been spotted flaunting neon lips and smoky eyes -- but you don't have to be a rock goddess in training to pull it off. Sticking to one feature at a time, you can go with an electric blue eyeliner to make your peepers pop, or highlight your summer tan with contrasting tangerine nails, for example. Take a look at the slideshow for some wearable neon shades!

Get That Edgy, Rocker-Inspired Look With Chain Accents!

To chain or not to chain? These days, it's not even a question! I used to picture a black, quilted Chanel bag with braided chain straps whenever I would hear about chains in fashion. Chanel chain straps are still feminine, but hint upon notes of edginess. With the influx of sexy-goth vampires and emo-rocker fashions, however, chains are now popping up everywhere from hair pieces to fancy footwear and all things in between! It's not so much the single large strand like a Dookie Chain ala RunDMC or the early b-boy days, but rather multiple, skinny links of varying widths and lengths that are adorning clothes and accessories and popping up on every other photoshoot. Smaller, more delicate chains are all the rage right now and look great dangling from boots and pumps and really step up the air of danger in an outfit when placed on what would be basic tops or bottoms. Wear them on as many pieces as you'd like, or have it be the detail on just one. Sexy, edgy looks are in so check out the slideshow for some awesome chained pieces!

Hot In The Hive: Dominic Jones Jewelry

    image

With stars like Rihanna leading the gothic, punk style trend and edgy vampires popping up as sex symbols everywhere from Twilight to True Blood, it's no surprise that designers have taken clothing and accessories to the next level. We're seeing metallic studs and points and shiny materials like patent leather and finished georgettes as added details of choice. Reds, blacks and greys are the new backdrops and blood red lips and pale, pale complexions are gracing the runways. One designer to jump on the "sexy-vampire" band-wagon? Dominic Jones. Jones' designs are right on with the current edgy, rocker, "don't get too close or I'll suck your blood" craze, but still makes it his own. Take his black and gold "fangs belt" for example. Black belts are nothing new, but the gold fangs meeting in the middle definitely make it different! The great thing about this belt is that you can wear it to amp up a simple sheath dress and add some attitude into your look, and then lend it to your crazy, over-the-top, super-trendy younger sister to wear over her slashed leggings and oversized tees.

Price: Inquire at Dominic Jones for details!

    Styles That Mesh Well!

Every time I see mesh clothing, the early 90's song, "I'm too sexy for my ..." starts playing in my head. However, I've been seeing this trend pop up everywhere from little independent boutiques to department stores and designer labels. When one pictures mesh on clothing, it is usually accompanied with leather, chains and possibly hand-cuffs! The new trend is taking over, however, and has found a way to be edgy without being over the top and totally chic and fashion forward without making the wearer feel like George Michael. From casual knit tops to sparkling dresses (and who could forget those hot YSL cage shoes??), mesh is the way to go. Try it in a trendy spring color or floral to make it more versatile and season-appropriate! Check out the slideshow for some ideas that could "mesh" well with your personal style!

Heavy Metal: Chain Necklaces Are Still Hot!

    image

When it comes to jewelry, especially chains and anything with a rocker edge, I have a tendency to think more is more. Well, apparently I'm not the only one! Layered necklaces have been taken to a whole new level. Givenchy showed about a million little chain necklaces layered over a sleek pantsuit, but these necklaces don't have to be only for your goth moments-- they're perfect for spicing up a regular white t-shirt and jeans or even a prim and proper dress. Throw out the old thinking that you have to take off a piece of jewelry before you leave the house-- instead, add more! Layer on some of your own chains for a heavy metal look, or remix an old chain belt into a necklace. My absolute favorite jewelry designer, Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry, does chain necklaces like no one else. These messy, pre-layered necklaces are an amazing mix of chains and found objects that won't weigh you down! Check out the slideshow for options with prices ranging from budget to bank-breaking!
