Lindsay, Shakira, And Mischa Glam It Up At The Whitney Gala

    image

The red carpet was certainly rolled out last Monday night at the annual Whitney Musuem Gala for its parade of high-profile attendees from across the film, fashion, and art industries. While guests like Shakira, Chanel Iman, and Alexa Chung discussed their own artistic talents (or lack thereof) over filet mignon appetizers, drooled over Gerard Butler, and listened to Jennifer Hudson's show-stopping mid-dinner performance, other gala-goers couldn't help but just people-watch. After all, Lindsay Lohan was quite a... vision in that daringly short gold dress. And Taylor Momsen's thigh-high slit complete with fishnet stockings was an interesting sight in the context of such a black-tie affair. Both were reportedly mistaken for the event's host, Donatella Versace -- which can either be perceived as somewhat of a compliment or... not so much. Which Reality Beauty Looked The Best At The 2009 Fox Reality ...

You're amongst friends here so go ahead and admit that it's a not-so-secret guilty pleasure that we'll change our real lives around to fit the schedules of these "real-life" shows. They claim to be reality television, giving us a glimpse into a moment of the lives of some of our favorite (or forgettable) celebrities. What exactly are they so famous for again? And why are we paying them more than the President to sit around and live out their lives as usual? From Paris Hilton living on a farm, to the documentation of Adrianne Curry's quickie and sudden marriage to a Brady to Kim Kardashian showing us how much she doesn't need to work, we just can't get enough of these pseudo-celebrity lives! But watching their lives that are so much more glamorous than our own is not enough, now we want to give them awards for it. So our favorite reality celebrities to love (and love to hate) gathered for the 2009 Fox Reality Channel 'Really' Awards and, unlike their oft over-the-top personalities and styles on screen, they showed up in surprisingly sophisticated looks. Who do you think looked the best at the 2009 Fox Reality Channel 'Really' Awards? Is it Kim Kardashian with looking stunning in a simple grey sheath dress and layered locks? Or is Adrianne Curry's knee-length, sexy one-shoulder LBD and smoky eye that keeps your attention? Even Paris looked polished and lady-like in a one-shoulder, glittering mini and retro-inspired hair. Vote for your favorite in the poll below!

Who Had The Best 'Do At The "Good Hair" Premiere?

For a celebrity, it's always vital to look your best wherever paparazzi might be present (like, uh, everywhere?)... so naturally a Los Angeles film premiere is no occasion to slack off, no matter how casual the affair. But when the film is Chris Rock's docu-comedy "Good Hair," the pressure is on to be more than just impeccably clothed. Last week's Westwood debut brought forth a throng of fashionable ladies to the red carpet, including Gabrielle Union and Nia Long who both showed off bouncy curly coifs that hardly seemed as high-maintenance as the film subjects' stressed-out tresses. And Eve and Raven-Symone were looking perfectly polished from their feet to their follicles with their shiny straightened locks that at least looked fuss-free and effortless (and that's all that matters, right?). Vote below and tell us who you think had the best hair at the "Good Hair" premiere! Photo Credit: PR Photos

The Secret Life Of A Fashion & Celebrity Photographer

    image
Adriana Nova on Oct 7, 2009 10:20 AM PDT
Imagine that your office is a fashion show runway. Your work assignments typically go by one name (RPattz, Gisele, Brangelina), and if disagreements with your colleagues turn physical, well... hardly anyone bats an eye. Sound surreal? If you're a successful celebrity and fashion photographer like Getty Images' Frazer Harrison, it's all in a day's work. The world of celebrity and fashion photography is a rough-and-tumble one -- a Wild West of cameras, competition, and confrontation that is not at all for the weak of will. "Everyday is a challenge," shares Harrison. "You battle everything from Los Angeles traffic to overzealous security to your equipment. You're worried about lighting, your position on the line or the runway. So many things can go wrong and it's up to me alone to make sure that I limit the fail rate." With such a pressure-filled job that hundreds of other photogs are doing anyway, why is it worth the stress? "Any working or amateur photographer will tell you: it's when you see a particular picture published. Front pages are always a satisfying feeling. And really, no two days are the same, which is why after all this time it is still fresh and fun to do." With over 25 years in the business covering fashion week shows, red carpet events, and celebrity news, Harrison would certainly know, and has stories to burn. His most memorable moments include everything from covering Michael Jackson's infamous trial to an impromptu photo session with Paul McCartney to getting unprompted career advice from a certain "Jerry Maguire" star, who punctuated her speech with, "'Oh, by the way, my name's Renee." As far as equipment, Harrison prefers a Nikon D3 camera, and his trick to getting the best shots is: "If you saw it [happen away from the viewfinder], you probably didn't get it. Concentrate, stay focused on what's happening around you, and try to predict what's going to happen before it does. And add to that a bit of luck." And what advice does the seasoned photog have for us everyday point-and-shooters? "Those mug shots of celebrities after they've been arrested? They are what you don€™t want! Generally speaking, there are numerous things you can do to improve your chances of taking a good pic." Read on for tips on how to hone your own camera skills, then check the slideshow to see some examples of Frazer's best work!

Which CW Starlet Looked The Hottest At Teen Vogue's Young ...

Somehow Teen Vogue's annual Young Hollywood Party seemed so much more laid-back without having to watch Lauren Conrad run around backstage on the verge of tears like a chicken with its head cut off. While I'm sure there were plenty of other interns slaving behind the wings making sure it all ran smoothly, the event was much more enjoyable from our view on the red carpet. After all, what's a Teen Vogue party without the chance to really check out the entrance ensembles! With all the black, chrome, and grey dresses and pantsuits, I couldn't help but ask myself, has fall finally arrived, or is everyone just feeling "blah" tonight? And also, who are some of these people? I had to give credit to CW's newest bad girl, Katie Cassidy, for brightening the mood with a seriously colorful corseted number... while her fellow station-pals Jessica Stroup and AnnaLynne McCord kept it cool in monochrome. Vote below on which CW actress repped her re-make show the best on the red carpet! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Which Emmy Awards Actress Did The Matte Makeup Look Best?

    image

When the phrase "award show" is mentioned, things that usually come to mind in the realm of beauty are "dramatic," "high-impact" and "come-hither." You think plump red lips, rosy cheeks, heavy eyeliner, fluttering lashes... Okay, maybe I'm thinking Old Hollywood, but still, the stereotype is often still expected on big-night red carpet events like the Emmys. However, a celeb photo hound like myself couldn't help but notice the prevalence of neutral matte lips at last Sunday's fete, from drama queen January Jones' semi-sheer coral hue to funny gal Alyson Hannigan's peachy nude. Who knew that understated barely-there shades would be the key to shaking things up on TV's biggest night? Whether these downplayed lip shades served to help balance other features like Mila Kunis' smoky eyes, or simply matched an overall style like Kim Kardashian's sexy ice princess look, these TV sirens proved you don't need bold color or high shine to be a winner in our beauty book! Vote below on who you think looked best in her matte lipcolor. Photo Credit: PR Photos
