Go Red, White And Chic For The Fourth Of July!

    image
Pauline Montupet on Jun 28, 2009 9:21 AM PDT
Every year, the fourth of July rolls around and I'm left rummaging through my closet that consist of mostly neutrals and end up showing up to a fourth of July party looking dressed for a funeral and not a BBQ. Quite often the thought of parading around in extraordinary bright colors and mixed patterns and still looking fashionable is extremely daunting. After reviewing some of the spring runway shows I see that red white and blue, when not taken too literally with stars and stripes, can be amazingly chic. Taking cues from Michael Kors' retro Pleasantville-with-a-twist look, I'll be able to put together a fantastic 4th of July ensemble. I'll make the "Plaza Estie" striped skirt the cornerstone of my outfit-- it covers all the necessary colors for the holiday and its flared puffy skirt will leave lots of room for hot dogs and potato salad. A ballet flat with a loud print like Betsey Johnson's circle flat can funk up the primness of the skirt and is great for outdoor events because the last thing you want is your stilettos getting stuck in the grass. Top the look off with a plain white tee, grab a red, white, and blue bikini for a dip in the pool, and you're looking as festive as the fireworks. Check out the slideshow for how to get the look, and other chic red white and blue picks!

Who Can Pull Off A Bright Red Pin-Up Girl Pucker?

    image

Forget shimmery beiges and glossy nudes! According to some of today's most beauty-savvy starlets, the chic trend in lip color during this almost-summer season is a punchy red-orange pout to match the red carpet they're treading on! With accompanying curly locks and sometimes even mile-long lash extensions to boot, it seems like young Hollywood fashionistas are taking a page from the old Hollywood glamour book and channeling some of their favorite pin-up poster girls in a way that's both classic and hip. While Katy Perry is no stranger to cranberry lipstick (topped with cherry chapstick, no doubt), other lippy ladies like TV bad gal AnnaLynne McCord, Katharine McPhee, and Evan Rachel Wood are less about the retro-glam gimmick and more about making a bold yet risky statement with their racy kisser. Bright red-orange lips may be a vivid look, but that doesn't mean it suits everyone! Vote below on who looks the prettiest with a ruby pout. Photo Credit: PR Photos

    Vintage Fashionistas Are Seeing Red

    image
Mary Kincaid on Apr 10, 2009 2:23 PM PDT
Christian Louboutin knew a thing or two when he chose to put red soles on his shoes. A study reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology says that while red won't make you look smarter or more confident or more likable, it will make you appear sexier to men. Then there's the study in Science that says that the color red is the best color when you want to focus. Add in the research examining data from the 2004 Olympics that concluded athletes who wear red uniforms win more often and it's almost enough to convince a blonde bombshell to become a redhead. Of course, any gal can don one of these red-hot vintage finds and also get on the radar of every available male within staring distance! Just click the slideshow to see the selection.

But wouldn't it be nice if that time spent could in some way be helping people? With the new Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT)RED program, it can. By now you know that items from the (PRODUCT)RED family contribute directly to the Global Fund which helps in the fight against AIDS in Africa. If I already need to buy something and part of the proceeds are donated to a good cause, then why not! That's why (PRODUCT)RED is so awesome. From Gap shirts to iPods, doing your part in helping to eliminate AIDS in Africa has never been easier. In fact, HIV rates have dropped from 2.2% to 1.9%, a definite result from (PRODUCT)RED and The Global Fund. Here's another reason to be excited. Get Blushing In A Red, Pink Or Coral Dress This Valentine's Day!

    image
Anna Yu on Feb 9, 2009 7:25 AM PST
I've found out that there's tons to prepare for if you're celebrating Valentine's Day with your sweetheart. From reserving a table at the most romantic restaurant in town well in advance to finding that perfect gift, there's a lot of stress leading up to the big day. Why not let us make your life a little easier in the wardrobe department? If you're still looking for that sexy Valentine's Day date dress, read on. One of my favorite fashion quotes comes from famed designer, Bill Blass: "When in doubt, wear red." While a bold bright red may not be right for everyone's style, I've found a wide selection in reds, pinks, and corals. Don't worry, these dresses can be worn again and again (no heart prints in sight!) without anyone wondering why you're in a Valentine's Day getup in June. Then again, I can't vouch for your Christmas sweaters or St. Patrick's Day all-green outfits. A red and white striped nautical-inspired dress is great for a casual date. Coral is one of those totally underrated colors that looks good on most skin tones. Take a look at a one-shoulder ruffle dress by Tibi for a stunning example.
