New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Brian Reyes

    image

When designer Brian Reyes noted backstage that his Spring/Summer 2010 collection contained "all the things he loves," he wasn't exaggerating. Even though his runway seemed to boast everything but the kitchen sink -- from sheer lingerie to multicolored high-waisted shorts to metallic off-the-shoulder dresses to ink blots(?!) -- he still managed to maintain a sophisticated sense of balance. Floaty ruffled blouses were reined in with cinched belts, and bustier dresses got a dose of high-wattage color to keep things young and fun, not vampy. As for the silk rorschach test body suit? That's the result of a creative thought process that perhaps only Reyes' #1 fan Rachel Bilson would fully understand. Flip through the slideshow to see some of the show-stopping ensembles!

Which Front-Row Fashionista Looked The Fiercest At Fashion Week?

    image
Alex Gambardella on Sep 19, 2009 9:20 AM PDT
Even from just a cursory flip-through of Fashion Week photos, it's easy to tell which stylish starlets just can't stay away from the Bryant Park tents. After all, when every dress, purse, and sequin you've ever worn is documented by the press, it's easy to get addicted to front-row views of your next big-night red carpet ensembles. Certain celebs like Jessica Alba and Alicia Keys took breaks from their busy schedules to pop into designer favorites like Narciso Rodriguez and Giorgio Armani, while other fashion-infatuated gals like Jessica Stroup and Rachel Bilson flocked tirelessly to as many runways as they could handle, from Vivienne Tam to Brian Reyes. And whether you're a celebrity, designer, model, writer, or shopaholic, there's no pressure to look your best like there is at New York Fashion Week! New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Jill Stuart

    image

For her Spring 2010 runway show at New York Fashion Week, Jill Stuart presented a futuristic collection that also paid homage to the bold spirit of the '80s. This collection had a very strong borrowed-from-the-boudoir theme- sheer fabrics and panels, corsets, lace, and dresses so short they looked like lingerie all added to the va va voom vibe. It wasn't all about the vamps and vixens though- there were plenty of softly draped white dresses that were definitely on the more wearable end of the spectrum. However, these too were sexed up with killer lace-up boots that looked like corsets for your feet. This collection was marked by micro-minis (like seriously micro), second skin pants, strong shoulders, sequins, metallics, and oversized studs, all of which added to the sexy, edgy, rocker vibe. My wishlist included a black shimmery backless halter, a studded strapless dress, a metallic draped micro-mini, and a pink zebra striped sequined dress that seriously caused my jaw to hit the floor. Created by Beyond Yoga designer Jodi Guber and graffiti artist Andre Charles, they are perfect for going to the gym, beach or just bopping about town. These limited edition bags are to raise awareness and support The Art of Elysium, a non-profit that encourages working actors, artists and musicians to share their craft with children living with serious medical conditions. You can choose from one of the 4 slogans: "I am beyond..." grateful, blessed, loved or lucky. Not feeling any of these? Create your own to reflect your personality like Rachel Bilson ("I am beyond DRAMA") or Cameron Diaz ("I am beyond HOPEFUL"). The possibilities are endless!

New York Fashion Week Fills The Shows' Front Rows With Plenty ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Feb 27, 2009 9:23 AM PST
Among the fashion elite who are actually granted access to the highly-exclusive Bryant Park tents are some of Hollywood's most noted celebrities -- after all, what kind of star would you be if you weren't dressed by the best of the best in designer royalty? Some famous fashionistas like Kellie Pickler and Jessica Stroup couldn't stay away from the glamour of the runway and were spotted warming up the front row seats of several designers' shows, including Badgley Mischka, Pamella Roland, and Lela Rose; meanwhile, other more low-key VIPs saved their appearances for just their favorite style mavens, like Mickey Rourke for Domenico Vacca. While New York Fashion Week is ultimately about the clothing, many stylish starlets' presences in the front row are inevitably photographed even more frequently than the designer threads themselves (oh, the price of fame), but most celeb attendees made sure they shared the spotlight and showed their support by arriving in their favorite pieces from the headlining label, like Brittany Snow in her gorgeous beaded Diane von Furstenberg dress. I know being famous must be exhausting, but I really can't think of anything I wouldn't give to switch places with one of those front-row ticket holders just for a day (preferably Herve Leger day, please), even if I had to be Paris Hilton. Check out the slideshow for more pictures of stylish superstars, both in the audience and backstage at some of New York Fashion Week's hottest shows!
