"One Life to Live" Prom Fashion Preview

    image

The hallways of Llanview High School are filled with excitement and anticipation as all the kids prepare for prom! This year's event is not, unfortunately, entirely musical as it was a couple years back. However, we do get the Pussycat Dolls performing, so that's some consolation. If there's one thing we love about prom besides stolen kisses behind the bleachers, it's gorgeous prom fashion! So we dialed up "One Life to Live" costume designer extraordinaire Susan Gammie to get some dish on what all the kids will be wearing on the big night. Susan says she's most interested in how fashion "tells the story and how it reveals the character." Click over to SoapNet for more style and entertainment stories!

Take The Next Step To Your Prom Style!

    image

For some, prom isn't about the cute date, the cute dress, or the cute bag... it's the cute shoes! And, why not? It's fitting that you would pay extra special attention to what goes on your feet since you'll be on them all night, dancing it away! And of course, the wrong pair of heels could destroy your outfit -- you don't want to be the stand-out girl in the prom group pic with an embarrassing set of mom's couture-crumbling, hand-me down backups. While a great pair of shoes can match any outfit, an affair as awesome as prom is a case for some new kicks. The old, "your shoes MUST match your bag" rule has been modified since its old-wives' era inception, but like your prom bag, your shoe choice should still be a conscientious compliment to your outfit. Rhinestones, straps, gold and bit of gaud are all fair game on your prom night, so when it comes to style, as long as your steps are in check with your gown, you're ready to hit the town!

If you've got everything else on your Prom list, it's easy to forget one of the most important components to your outfit. You don't want just any bag to do the trick for your touch-ups (and yes, that includes the device you currently use for your everyday toting). A cute clutch is the perfect companion on a night to remember like this. Style-wise, there are many different trendy takes designers can create for an evening bag: there are colors, patterns, textures, and shapes that outweigh your wildest clutch imagination! You don't even have to mirror-match your bag to your outfit, as finding a suitable compliment to your gown can mean that an eye-popping contrast is the perfect touch! Also, don't be daunted by your idea of a clutch's size: these handy pieces are made both big and small to accommodate your desired degree of prom preparedness. Start your search soon this spring to cling to a clutch that's just right for you!

Undress A Bit WIth A Short Dress For Prom!

Hey, there, high school party girl! Have you found your prom dress yet? Finding a dress can be stressful, but when all a girl wants to do is have fun, take out the stress and try something a little more ... little. A fun short gown is a great way to grab much-wanted attention from the entire student body. Speaking of bodies, while the masses are covered head to toe in a traditional long ballroom gown, flashing those stems is hot way to flaunt your fine figure. Not only will your date be glad you decided to show your sweet-self off, less fabric to your dress means more money in your pocket, as long dresses can tend to be higher priced. A glammed-up gown modeled after the styles of the season's trendiest cocktail frocks will add playful flair to your prom. So, go ahead, party girl: Make your prom off the hook (or just off like a prom dress- kidding!) with a showy, short dress!

Editor's Pick: Five Prom Dresses You Can Wear Again!

    image

No matter how special your prom is, no matter how handsome the suitor or how hipster you are, the dress you buy will either give you wear in the years to come or it€™ll hang in your mom€™s attic until it€™s someday hauled off via yard sale. The long, backless dress that ended in a big black bow that I wore to my 11th grade homecoming dance was worn again at a black tie wedding for a hotel heiress five years later, and adorned my baby sister for her senior prom long after. The bright bubble gum pink tea-length taffeta strapless worn to graduation? Not so much. The ticket is all about what you pick. Here is a SLIDESHOW of my five favorite "you€™ll-wear-it-again" dress choices, plus tips on how to convert them later!
