New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Ports 1961

For the Spring 2010 Ports 1961 collection, designer Tia Cibani found inspiration in the beauty of nature and as such, she presented an absolutely breathtaking collection. The color palette was mostly muted and comprised of soft airy shades, with the occasional pop of color thrown in, like the standout cherry organza layered sheath. To keep things on the clean and minimal side, embellishments were kept discreet, instead focusing heavily on construction and silhouette over anything else. Some of the pieces were very voluminous but in a way that was still wearable and not too overwhelming, while others were cinched at the waist for a sexier, more defined silhouette. The draping, tucking, and folding were so incredible, even someone with no knowledge of fashion whatsoever would be awed. Some of my absolute favorites included the talc marble wrap dress, a brushstroke silk satin sheath dress with a draped back (definitely a versatile piece which can be worn with a blazer for day and sexy shoes and lots of accessories for night),, and a muted tank dres that was so simple yet stunning. From the bustier cocktail frocks to the organza blazers to the draped skirts, each and every single piece in this collection was simply phenomenal. Flip through the slideshow to see some of the pieces in action.

Rock a Little Red Dress Like Sienna Miller

    image

At the New York premiere of The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, fashion trend-setter extraordinaire Sienna Miller showcased a sleek, sophisticated style that was still undeniably sexy. Sienna looked absolutely radiant in a ravishing red dress by Marios Schwab which looked especially sizzling with her matching red pout. She completed her look with Roger Vivier black pumps and opaque tights, leaving the accessories at home and letting this standout dress do all the talking. The LRD (little red dress) is a fabulous alternative to the classic LBD, especially for a night when you wanna get in touch with your inner sexy siren. The key to rocking this style is to keep it minimal, like Sienna, and balance out the inherent sex appeal of the look with more pared down accessories. Photo credit: PR Photos

Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Long-Haired Fur

While I personally feel that fur belongs on my dog and nowhere else, I will admit it does add a certain glamour to winter get-ups. But not just any fur- long-haired fur is this season's most dramatic accessory, adding plush luxury to jackets, earmuffs, vests, and even jewelry. Throw subtlety out the window in a Ports 1961 long-haired fur capelet- don't worry, it's faux- or give your basic tee and jeans a wild edge with a faux fur vest from Express- at just $168, it's guilt-free style at its finest. But if only the real thing will do, invest in Chloe's Mongolian lamb coat, adorned with crystals and embroidery for utmost elegance, or Behnaz Sarafpour's sleek black goat hair jacket, perfect with party frocks and jeweled flats. Still unsure about this furry fashion trend? While we can't say PETA won't mind, we can say it doesn't hurt to look. Check out Elle's A to Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and click on our SLIDESHOW for more luxurious long-haired fur finds.

Fashion Week Preview: Ports 1961 Fuses Art, Nature in Spring ...

Sleek, wearable, and "die on the floor amazing" (as Sophia Bush enthusiastically put it), Ports 1961 is always a hot fashion week ticket. While last season was all about the mythological landscapes of Scotland, for the Spring 2009 collection, designer Tia Cibani found inspiration in Canadian artist Emily Carr whose work specializes in her awareness of Canadian culture. From pieces representing the British Columbian rainforest, to expressionist paintings, to totem poles and other artifacts, Emily's work is strongly rooted in the culture of the natives of the Pacific Northwest. Wow, definitely can't WAIT to see how this unique source of inspiration lends itself to the garments she creates for this season!
