Portland, Oregon has both travel critics and serious shopaholics abuzz. The rapidly growing Pacific Northwest hot spot is overflowing with fair-trade coffee houses, quirky boutiques, a bustling local scene, and an eco-friendly lightrail to help you see it all. Travel & Leisure even rated Portland as one of America's Favorite Cities this year, praising its cleanliness, safety, and environmental awareness. The Jupiter Hotel, located in the heart of Portland's Downtown, epitomizes the city's free-spirited attitude with a 1960's retro meets cabin-in-the-woods style decor with a rock n' roll edge. That's right, this hip boutique hotel's own courtyard turns into nightclub come sun down - red carpet included! After adventurous days exploring the city, grab some grub at the Jupiter's on-site restaurant, the Doug Fir Lounge - it's known for its buffalo burgers, omelets, and staying open "until way past your bedtime." Best of all, this trendy new hotel rocks a very budget-friendly pricetag. So whether you come for the chalkboard doors or because Conde Nast Traveler branded it "one of the best new hotels in the world," next time that you gotta getaway consider Portland, Oregon and the Jupiter Hotel. In case you aren't privy to Portland's secret, we thought we would share with you one of our favorite independent designers- Holly Stalder. Holly is not only a designer, but has also co-owned the indie boutique Seaplane for the past eight years. Holly and her business partner, Kate Towers, just sold the business this past month in order to make more time to develop their own personal lines. Seaplane carries lines from local Portland designers as well as other designers who offer small handmade lines. When viewing Holly's gorgeous designs you may not realize that her design process is deeply rooted in environmentally friendly practices. Click READ MORE for an interview with Holly!
