These Platform Pumps Make It Chic To Be Square!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 9, 2009 10:20 AM PST
Pointed, rounded, almond, peep toe... you may think you've got your bases covered when it comes to shoe shopping, but there's a new style on the block that's ready to take over. Square toe platform pumps are popping up everywhere lately -- designer and bargain brands alike -- and are bringing that ballerina-inspired pointe shoe look to the style scene. The flattened toe provides a vintage feel, especially if you go Mad Men style with a pencil skirt, while the platform gives the look a modern edge. Be careful when indulging in this trend, though -- if you're looking to elongate your legs, you might not want to throw out all your pointed pumps and replace them with their snubbed-toe counterpart! However, all you leggy girls can lust after the trend without fear! Of course, your credit card may have reason to fret if you go overboard... check the slideshow to see a selection of hot square-toed platforms!

8 Bandage Booties And Pumps That'll Have Your Feet Under Wraps!

    image

Sure, it's always sad to see a once-hot trend overstay its welcome, but the good news is that some of our favorite styles don't necessarily leave the racks forever -- they just migrate to another department! What the Herve Leger bandage dress (or its more affordable counterparts) did for the body, the bandage bootie does for the feet (well, sort of). We won't go as far as describing the footwear trend as "feet-con" in the spirit of "body-con," but the thick-strapped look is similarly sexy in its banded, wrapped-up appearance. Put a sexy spin on the classic Mary Jane with this banded suede pump by Acne, or go strappy (and save!) with a multi-textured gladiator-style heel from Forever 21. Take a look at the slideshow for 8 varied takes on the bandage heel!

Whether you're tackling midterms or quarter finals this week, impatiently crossing off the calendar days in anxious anticipation of Spring Break, or just trying to trudge through another tough few days at the office, it can be a struggle to work up the motivation every morning to keep your fingers off the snooze button and get ready to give your all to everything you'll attempt throughout the day. With all the to-do's piling up on your plate, it might seem frivolous to take out extra time from your agenda or precious sleep schedule to plan out the perfect ensemble, footwear included; after all, whatever you grab off your closet floor in the dim wee hours of the dawn will suit you just fine. However, haven't you ever noticed how looking great, feeling confident head-to-toe, and even just feeling excited about a new pair of shoes just boosts your overall mood and makes your optimism go through the roof? That's right, I'll say it -- a stylish pair of shoes can save the day! Whether your week is best suited for some smart flats like Virgos, a practical pair of tennies for speedy Sagittariuses, or a killer pair of platforms for ultimate attention-getting Aquariuses, you're destined to find that putting a little extra thought into what you tread in will not only make you look amazing, but will also help you be armed and ready for whatever hoops you'll have to jump through or obstacles you'll have to sidestep in the days ahead. Check the slideshow to see what the stars have in store for you and your feet this week!

Fall Head Over Heels In Love With Nine West Sandals For Spring!

    image

I love Nine West. Their shoes are amazingly adorable (for the most part), durable, well-made and - perhaps most important of all though I loathe to admit I need this in a shoe - comfortable. Nine West has done a great job of fusing style and comfort. These are shoes that can be worn to the office, and - if you choose the right ones - likely even worn to walk to and from work as well! They're definitely functional for a night out on the town. That's why I've had my finger on the pulse of West, and was ecstatic when their new line came out for spring: sandals and wedges and strappies, oh my! There are tons of options and this season they've gone a bit more structured with a lot of their sandals - wide heels, sturdier platforms, thicker straps. These are not dainty shoes, folks, and I love them! My favorites are the platforms with straps. These are an emerging trend right now and you can't go wrong. They can be worn with jeans, skirts, office attire, sundresses and much more. So prepare for a fun summer and stock up on your Nine West! See more at TheFind.

Party Like it's 1970 This Halloween!

    image

Back in the day, the 1970s signaled the emergence of musical talents like Patti Smith, David Bowie, and the Sex Pistols. These days, we're seeing the decade in another light- it's a great source of fashion inspiration for this year's Halloween costume! The fashion and style of the 70s suit every style from mini dresses to maxi dresses and even jumpsuits! Since this decade's made a huge comeback in the past few years, you probably already have a few 70s-inspired pieces of clothing for your Halloween look. If not, scouring your local vintage stores is sure to turn up some great items. Look for lots of ethnic inspired prints, paisley, long and loose caftans and tunics, and turquoise jewelry. For DIYers, look into the archives of famed fashion houses such as Halston, Givenchy, and Yves Saint Laurent, watch old episodes of Charlie's Angels or find vintage dress patterns to start your creations. And for those less talented with a needle and thread, check out my SLIDESHOW for ideas that will have you stepping back in time (in platforms, of course).

Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Hidden Platform

    image

Ready to take your style to new heights? Here's a little secret from this season's must-have shoe- try a hidden platform. A mere extra inch of heel ever so subtly stacked under even the most basic of pumps adds a fresh, fashion-forward edge to the classic style, but don't stop there- pull on a pair of hidden platform slouch boots or slip into a sling back bootie for a twist on this new favorite. Platforms like these beg to be paired with slouchy, wide leg trousers, but if you can't bear the thought of covering up your new shoes, show them off with opaque tights and a voluminous mini- we recommend an open-toe style like Stuart Weitzman's 'Puente' pump. The versatility of this style is unparalleled- pair them with dress shorts by day and evening gowns by night, and if you manage to take them off in between, give yourself a pedicure in a hot new shade- you can bet your toes will be noticed. Does the thought of teetering around on these seemingly statuesque shoes have you reaching for your old heels? We haven't gotten to the best part yet- your arches won't even know the difference. It can be your little secret. Go to Elle's Fall A to Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and check out the slideshow for our favorite hidden platforms.
