Lapis lazuli is a semi-precious relatively rare stone that that has been prized since antiquity. Lapis has been mined in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan for over 6,000 years, and trade in the stone is ancient enough for lapis jewelry to have been found at Predynastic Egyptian sites.
This bowl is meticulously hand cut using fine natural lapis lazuli from Afghanistan and applied over a metal base. Nearly solid blue in color with remarkable sheen. Lapis lazuli of this quality is rare.
