Vintage Fashionistas Pay Tribute To The Queen Of Swimwear

    image
Mary Kincaid on Aug 14, 2009 8:24 AM PDT
Rose Marie Reid was the Queen of Swimwear in the 1950s, ruling an empire that produced 10,000 suits a day and posted sales of $14 million by 1958! Women loved her knack for hiding figure flaws and it was Rose Marie Reid who pioneered the use of tummy control panels, wire bra cups and the boning and adjustable straps that we enjoy in modern swimwear today. Plus she was a woman who stood by her convictions. Because she was Mormon, she refused to design immodest bathing suits. So while her company did ultimately create bikinis, Rose Marie Reid refused to participate in their design. For vintage fashionistas, an early authentic Rose Marie Reid swimsuit is a coveted find. Click the slideshow to see a fab little selection of her designs!

Hive 5: Spice Up Your Look With Red Lipstick!

I've come to the conclusion that it's time to play with makeup again. For so long, makeup has on a daily basis been used to make us look "naturally" beautiful. The "I just naturally look like this" act has been in play for quite some time and in my opinion needs to be retired for a while! The newest statement that is being worn for both day and evening makeup looks is a strikingly saturated red lip. Think of Dita Von Teese, pin up girls, and old Hollywood glamour as your inspirations. I've selected an array of stains, glosses, and lipsticks to give you as many means as possible to achieve your perfect red lip this season. Check out my SLIDESHOW to see just what I found in the Hive.

Hive 5: Monokini Trend Shows Less Is More!

This summer, it's all about showing off what you've got in a more subtle and unexpected way. Take the one piece bathing suit. Although you may be tempted to think of a 5 year old splashing around in a wading pool, we promise that these aren't as day-glo or french cut as they were in the 80's. Plus, these have cute holes cut out of the sides and plunging v-necks (like this one from Free People), and styles by Aguaclara's will have you wishing that knots and bathing suits came in more colors! So forget showing off all that mid-section, its all about modesty (sort of). Go ahead, flaunt the ultra body-friendly monokini, retro-style one-piece, or 80's re-vamp one-piece. To meet every girl's new best friends and where to buy them visit my SLIDESHOW!
