Everyone Needs a Pair of Glow-in-the-Dark Pants

    image

I own a lot of jeans. A lot. I have my comfy jeans for class, I have my sexy jeans for going out, I have my fat jeans for the end of the school year when nothing else fits, and I have my weekend jeans with the giant holes in the knees/between my legs where my thighs rub together. What I don't have is a pair that glows in the dark. I know! What's wrong with me? How have I survived college this long without Diesel's latest design that glows bright white under the dim lighting so common in sweaty frat basements? It's amazing I€™m even here to tell the tale. OK, so at first glance glow-in-the-dark pants might seem appropriate for raves and raves only, but upon further inspection these things could really be a great investment. Just think about all the times a pair of glowing legs might come in handy...

Stay Comfortably Chic This Fall In Classic Corduroy!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Oct 2, 2009 2:25 PM PDT
With Halloween and Thanksgiving lurking right around the corner, there's no denying that the fall season and its considerably cooler weather has descended upon us. There are the basic fall fabrics that immediately come to mind - worsted wool, cashmere, denim blends and finished canvas materials - that automatically make us think warmth and coverage. However, there is one material out there that is perfect for fall and has not received the kind of recognition is deserves- corduroy! This material is thicker, making it perfect for the autumn chill. It's pliable and can be blended with other materials, much like denim, but it's even softer. It can come in a variety of colors or a versatile range of garments that are appropriate for casual weekends or to help make a fashion statement for the first weeks of school. Corduroy, unlike denim, can also be used to for pieces that can be considered work appropriate. That brushed wool blazer may seem a little too stern sometimes, but try one in corduroy and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the youthful business look it lends to the wearer. Look for a corduroy with a higher spandex percentage (no less than 2%, but no more than 4%) for a comfy must-have pant that matches everything your favorite jeans do, and more! Just click on the slideshow to see out some corduroy creations to add to your cooler weather closet!

Donald Fisher, Founder Of Gap Inc, Dies

Don Fisher, the retail legend who along with his wife Doris, founded a single blue jeans store on San Francisco's Ocean Avenue and eventually, an entire clothing empire, passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was 81. His achievements transcended the retail category: as the store, which stocked Levis, records, and tapes grew into a now $15 billion global business, Fisher maintained a focus on thoughtful expansion and integrity, a sign that his philanthropic goals were just as important to him as his entrepreneurial ones. The road to The Gap was full of ups and downs, but success came in 1969 when he realized the need for an entire store devoted to pants, which was then the fastest growing classification-- soon after, the business plan was laid down and the first store opened, and the public loved what they saw. A lack of retail experience did not hinder Fisher in the least-- it only left room for more innovation. The Gap label was launched a few years later-- never before had a brand name used its store name. Philanthropy played a large role in his ventures. He founded Gap Foundation to help people in underserved communities worldwide grab hold of their futures, and was the force behind two of the most well-known and successful education reform organizations, Teach For America and the Knowledge Is Power program. As avid collectors of art, the Fishers contributed a great deal to SFMOMA, including their own collection. His achievements and contributions to San Francisco and the global community are truly infinite, and he will never be forgotten!

Shorten Your Pants In Seconds With Zakkerz Magnetic Hems!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 9, 2009 5:23 AM PDT
I discovered something strange this morning: I have two of the exact same pair of jeans -- apparently when I find something I like I buy it in multiples. And even though these jeans are the same style, the length differs by about one inch. I never noticed this until I tried to put the shorter pair with heels -- I looked like I was sporting floods! Now whatever the reason, this is annoying. Fortunately the shorter version looks great with flats, but sometimes I haven't he time to coordinate my shoes with the hem of my pants. Thankfully someone thought of this. I think these pants magnets were originally developed to keep the hems of your work pants clean while commuting through the snow, salt and sludge of NYC, but they would certainly solve my jeans problem! Zakkerz is known for this line of products and sells them at quite a reasonable price! Try 'em for yourself and you won't have the heel/flat problem ever again! Men's Fashion Tips: When To Save

    image
Millissa on Jun 22, 2009 5:09 AM PDT
With the beautifully warm and cheerful summer weather now well underway, you want to look cool and casual for days on the beach or barbecues with friends. Here are a few tips on where to save, yet still look stylish for summer. Simple cotton t-shirts in bright colours work wonders for any summer outfit. Adding a splash of colour atop a pair of tailored shorts or linen trousers can really add a nice flair to your look. Whilst graphic design t-shirts can often cost a pretty penny, a plain coloured option is friendlier on the wallet. The added bonus is that rather than relying on the print as the main focal point of your outfit, a simple colour play can look great. Make sure to choose a lighter colour, whilst keeping in mind which colours work best for you. For the rest of this article and more fashion and style stories, click over to HauteMimi.
