In 1939, Frida traveled to Paris to participate in "Mexique", an exhibition which featured examples of Mexican painting, sculpture, photography and popular art. Included in the exhibit was this painting. Although the exhibition was not a financial success, this painting became the first work by a 20th century Mexican artist to be purchased by the Louvre.
