Our Fave Style Bloggers Show Us Their Fall Must-Haves

    image
Anna Yu on Sep 14, 2009 5:24 AM PDT
Autumn is upon us -- and so is poverty. So we're being very choosy this year about how we're updating our autumn wardrobes. Our favorite style bloggers get what we mean, and they've helpfully given us a list of their cold weather must-have items -- the one or two pieces that they won't be going without.

Kim of What Claudia Wore blog: "With me, it's shoes -- always shoes -- and the taller the better. I was going to wax poetic about a pair of open-toed Frye booties that stole my heart. But then -- speaking of impractical cut-outs, right? -- I happened upon this blazer. No good would come of me owning it. Inevitably, it'd lead to a lot of outfits featuring tank tops. In October. In New England. Whatever -- I must have it. I love unexpected details, those pieces that make people cock their head slightly and say, 'Huh.' I love those moments when it all comes together and you get that Holy Grail of personal style compliments: 'Only you could wear that.'" Click on over to our friends at Lemondrop to keep reading!

Steal Her Style: Blake Lively's Summery Hamptons Look

Blake Lively is one of the most stylish starlets in Tinseltown -- and she doesn't work with a personal stylist. The outfit she recently wore to QVC's Super Saturday charity shopping event in the Hamptons was molto bene and perfect for a breezy summer day. Blake paired a form-fitting white mini by Herve Leger with a tailored blue-and-white-striped Oxford, and the classic preppiness of the shirt balanced the raciness of the eensie-weensie skirt. She finished the look with a pair of brown patent round-toe pumps and a long chain necklace. Here's how you can get her look for way less, courtesy of Lemondrop!

    1. Elizabeth and James Schoolboy Shirt: This menswear-inspired shirt features ruched sleeves and back buttons to keep it looking fitted, not boxy. $264
    2. Forever 21 Cut Off Denim Skirt: A crisp white skirt like this can be worn to a daytime BBQ or as an impromptu beach cover-up. $20
    3. Matisse Pump: A thick wooden heel and shiny patent upper combine to make this pump a true eye-catcher. $42
    4. Sequin Long Chain Necklace: Add some funky style to a more classic look with a fun, tiered chain necklace like this gorgeous silver version. $40

Brogues And Oxfords Get Flirty And Feminine!

    image

Taking items that are typically associated with menswear and making them feminine is no novel idea when it comes to modern day fashion. We've seen it in every context from sexy tailored suits on the red carpet to boyfriend blazers on your average night out on the town. However, the latest trend in menswear-gone-girlie is here to serve as a welcome addition to your shoe collection, just in time for fall. Brogues and oxfords, though traditionally men's dress shoes, have certainly been worn by the ladies before... just not nearly as fashionably or with the same feminine edge as the latest styles provide! Studs, cut-outs, and bright colors vamp up the normally conservative-looking shoe, making them far more chic than what you'd stereotypically find worn by a butler. True, the whole idea of open toes and modern embellishments sort of negates the very definition of a brogue, but hey -- with modifications this cute, we won't toss them based on a silly technicality! Reel to Real: Diane Keaton in "Annie Hall"

    image

Is there anything more quintessentially New York chic than Diane Keaton's wardrobe in Woody Allen's classic ode to love, "Annie Hall?" Trailblazing and iconic, Annie Hall's style was boyfriend before there was boyfriend: mannish trousers, waistcoats, tailored blouses, bowler hats, wingtip oxfords, and oversize blazers created a look that was part English country gentleman, part West Village bohemian. Even more fashion-forward? The look was pretty much Diane Keaton's own creation. According to movie lore, the film's costumer, Nancy McArdle, was at best dubious about how Keaton's look would appeal to moviegoers but at Woody Allen's vehement insistence, Diane's quirky, personal fashion sense was allowed to remain and become Annie's own. McArdle worked closely with another fashion icon, Ralph Lauren, to design the costumes, including Annie's signature polka-dot tie. Thus, fashion inspiration for the ages was born. Annie Hall's continued influence on fashion is seen in many places today, from the trendsetting looks sported by Agyness Deyn, Kate Moss, and Mary-Kate Olsen, to collections by designers such as Marc Jacobs and Boy by Band of Outsiders. Click the slideshow for a look at how you can channel the best of Annie's looks in today's fashion terms.

Booties, Shooties, and Ankle Boots Galore!

As much as I hate to subscribe to huge trends, I've succumbed to this one...my booty wants a pair of booties! You wouldn't think they'd be universally flattering, but now there's such a variety of styles out there that you're bound to find a pair out there that make your gams look good. They're just too irresistibly cute when paired opaque tights or skinny jeans. Whatever you may call them - booties, ankle boots, shooties (shoes x booties), there's so many out there to pick from - from suede to belted, cut out to peep toe, studded to ruched. That's why I need your help to pick a pair out, or, you can just take a look at my slideshow for your own shopping entertainment. Since I'm a shorty, of course they all have heels, that's just the way I roll.
