Oscar Red Carpet Afterthoughts – For The Men

    image
    Dino-Ray Ramos on Mar 2, 2009 5:15 AM PST
The battleground for the Oscars red carpet is empty and fashion bloggers (including myself) have burnt out on writing about Kate Winslet€™s YSL gown, Penelope Cruz€™s vintage Balmain dress (I am still getting over the fact that it is 60 years old), all the one-shouldered wonders (please reference Marisa Tomei€™s pleated Versace wonder) and the unfortunate incident with Jessica Biel€™s Prada dress. Even though we did enjoy these gowns as well as Sarah Jessica Parker€™s Wonder Woman-meets-fairy princess Dior Haute Couture gown, I still can€™t help but give props to the men. Any guy looks good in a tux €“ but when it€™s a leading man of Hollywood, we have to make a big deal about it. Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig donned Tom Ford while the evening€™s host Hugh Jackman (who made the Oscars worth watching again) wore Burberry. But it was Mickey Rourke who sartorially stood out from his peers. Dressed in a white Jean Paul Gaultier suit that matched his edgy personality (with no tie, mind you) and accessorized with a necklace of his late chihuahua, Loki, he made the red carpet fashion interesting for all the guys out there.

While this year's Oscars may have gone to the Slumdogs, everyone was a winner on the red carpet when it came to show-stealing looks in fashion and beauty. While we've already gone ga-ga over the gorgeous gowns that floated from the carpet to the stage on all of Hollywood's stunning starlets, everyone knows that an Academy Award ensemble isn't complete without an equally glamorous up-do. From elegant swept-back styles like Best Actress winner Kate Winslet's to chic side buns like Marisa Tomei's and loose and tousled half-down waves like Jessica Biel's, award show-worthy hair may look like a million bucks, but according to Frederic Fekkai stylists Renato Campora and Adir Abergel, creative coifs like these don't need to cost an arm and a leg -- in fact, you can even do it yourself with the right products and tools! Style Steal: Get Angelina Jolie's Dazzling Oscar Jewelry Look

A priceless stud hanging from your wrist and some priceless stones hanging from your heavenly-constructed head could only mean one thing: you're Angelina Jolie. While it may be difficult to nab a studly look-a-like like Brad Pitt, one fashion must-have can be mimicked. As if an appearance by the Brangelina duo at the Academy Awards wasn't enough to turn heads, Angelina stole the red-carpet with a bit of ear candy: her 115 carat Lorraine Schwartz Colombian emerald drop earrings that have been estimated to be valued in the high millions of dollars. The boldly shaped and colored jewels peeking out from her long flowing hair formed a fashion statement that will be remembered for many Oscar nights to come. Her already elegant look, premised with a premium choice black Elie Saab gown, was brought to a whole new level of movie-star mogul-dom with the pair of deep, piercing green gemstones- plain-jane black never looked quite so, uh, un-plain. Click the slideshow to see some style picks that follow Jolie's jewelry look at prices that are ... less than millions.

Style Steal: Get Kate Winslet's Oscar Jewelry Look!

It must be pretty good to be Kate Winslet right about now, and I'm thinking the designer dresses and jewelry have very little to do with that! But given her immense talent and grace, emulating her red carpet choices might just be the closest we come to being like her, and I have a feeling that's something many are willing to settle for. At Sunday night's Academy Awards Winslet paired her Yves Saint Laurent dress with stunning Chopard diamond chandelier earrings, which accented her look beautifully without distracting from her gown. We found a similar pair by Slane & Slane for under $500, a teeny fraction of what the Chopard diamonds would cost, at Neiman Marcus- we love how classic and intricate they are. Don't want to shell out quite so much? We've come up with a few much more affordable options, so you can add a little red carpet style to your everyday look. See Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, And Many More Stars On The ...

With New York fresh from fashion week festivities you may think all of the excitement in concentrated on the east coast, but last night's Academy Awards are all the proof we need that Hollywood can hold its own in this ever-changing arena. With eight wins for "Slumdog Millionaire" including Best Picture and a long-awaited Oscar for Kate Winslet for her performance in "The Reader," the red carpet wasn't the only impressive part of the night, but is indeed worth another look. Marion Cotillard was stunning in Dior (she's also the face of the brand), and Penelope Cruz looked absolutely divine in vintage Pierre Balmain. Angelina Jolie's Elie Saab gown, though understated, was a refreshing change from the draped silhouettes she's been showing off as of late, and Natalie Portman shined in bubblegum pink Rodarte.
