    Sesame Street Gets Fashionable!

As far as we can tell, Sesame Street doesn't really follow the latest fashion trends. I mean, when was the last time you saw Oscar the Grouch or Big Bird change their outfit? But now things might be changing on the block, with a little help from Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta. In honor of the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street, some very special guests are coming to the block. Harper's Bazaar paired up the show's most lovable characters with some hot fashion designers. And then we realized that maybe Oscar the Grouch does know a thing or two about fashion. According to him, "Hey, I invented grunge! It's a look I've been sporting for years!" We bet Oscar de la Renta can help Oscar the Grouch class up his grunge look a bit.

Which Designer Demonstrated The Best Personal Style At "The ...

This past Wednesday night, New York's Museum of Modern Art was abuzz with some of the world's most chic elite as they mingled at the NYC premiere of The September Issue. The film, which hits theaters on Friday, documents the inner workings of Anna Wintour and her Vogue team as they slave over the release of the hugely-anticipated annual Fall issue of the fashion bible. To celebrate the movie's release, style icons of Hollywood and the design industry alike graced the red carpet, and although it's normally their clothing that fights for the attention of the cameras, the designers themselves embraced the limelight in person to honor the occasion. Among some of the fashion favorites in attendance were Carolina Herrera (hand-in-hand with Oscar de la Renta), the always-polished Vera Wang, and Zac Posen, who didn't hesitate to throw a few "top model" poses in the paparazzi direction. Vote below on which designer you think most stylishly held up the fort for the fashion industry! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Any fashion week brings with it a slew of star-studded parties, but next month's spring 2010 shows in NYC will be ushered in by an absolute extravaganza- Fashion's Night Out. The September 10th event will feature everything from model and celebrity appearances to in-store events and meet and greets, and of course, shopping! It's being put on by Vogue, the CFDA, NYC & Company, and the City of New York, with the idea that engaging the city in the fun and excitement of fashion and shopping will restore consumer confidence once again. So what can we expect? For starters, Anna Wintour will appear at Macy's in Queens (wow, who would've thought) to sign t-shirts (again, wow), Andre Leon Talley will host a game at Bergdorf's. Coco Rocha will be doing a special performance at DKNY, Sasha Pivovarova will be showing her art at Henri Bendel, and it-girls like Harley Viera-Newton and Alexandra and Theodora Richards will be DJ-ing about town. Want more? Manolo Blahnik will hold a meet-and-greet, Oscar de la Renta will sing, Opening Ceremony is having a block party, and Chanel will have a customized handbag studio! Still not excited? Mark your calendars: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be bartending at Barneys- is it bad that I want someone to order a black and Tanner? Fall Trend Alert: Leather Jewelry!

    image

The upcoming fall fashion season will be heavy with rich textures and colors. Metallics, tweeds, and leather in all its forms--including jewelry. Jewelry? Leather accessories are mother's milk for the style-conscious (thinking about how much leather I personally own between shoes, purses, and jackets alone likely places me in PETA's crosshairs). Leather jewelry, however, is a niche in accessories that's not often thought of much. Mostly, I think, because people tend to envision Bondage or Dude Ranch homages whenever you hear "leather choker" (er, not that there's anything wrong with that!). However, there's a lot of gorgeous leather tooling in jewelry going on at the moment, particularly within Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 line, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite accessories brands. I like what leather jewelry does for an outfit: it takes a fabric typically reserved for hard use and turns it into something delicate, not to mention the dimension of texture it immediately adds to any look. Added bonus: price points that are normally reasonable and within reach. Take a look at selections from Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, and Anthropologie, among others, in my slideshow!

Make A Statement With Architectural Heels

Move over, "it" bag. For the past couple of seasons, it's been about the "it" shoes-- who could forget the crazy caged booties at YSL, or the futuristic lucite heels at Gianfranco Ferre? All over the Spring/Summer '09 runways it was the outrageous heels that stole the show. Shoes with unique and artistic shaped heels are a great way to try out a more fashion-forward look. While you may not be ready to rock the futuristic, exaggerated shoulders of the Balenciaga and Balmain collections, you can absolutely try an out there shoe. Look for platforms, block heels, cone heels, and beyond- there was no stopping the designers' creativity this season! Update your wedge look with a cut-out like the "Ashley" wedge from Kors by Michael Kors. For a platform look, try a circular heel instead of a traditional stacked heel, like Pour La Victoire's "Felicia" sandal. And don't think this look only works with large clunky shoes. Ladylike shoes get the "look at me" treatment too! Metallic heels are perfect for evening, like Oscar de la Renta's cut away cone heels and Proenza Schouler's silver cut-out heel sandals. Next time you're putting together an outfit, start with a statement shoe and build from there. Check out the slideshow for some shoe inspiration.

Vintage Fashionistas Are Walking On Sunshine!

By now you must know that yellow is THE color of the season. Fashion runways all over New York and Europe showed clothing and accessories in every shade from dandelion to canary, sunflower to goldenrod. And while Reese Witherspoon and Cate Blanchett have rocked stunning yellow dresses on the red carpet, most women I know still believe that yellow doesn't look good on them. Au contraire! Anyone can wear any color; it's just about picking the right shade to flatter your hair and skin tone. So while your brunette best friend might look great in a Crayola shade, if you're a fair-skinned blonde, you'll want to go a bit brighter. And if you're still feeling afraid to wear little ol' yellow, spice up your look with some sunshine-colored accessories or a print that has yellow as only one of its dominant hues. The slide show has loads of vintage finds to get you buttered up. Just click to see the selection!
