Make The Most Of Your Closet Space!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Aug 27, 2009 5:20 AM PDT
Luckily my apartment came with two closets, because I'll tell you one thing about living with a guy-- they're messy. And the closet is the worst. What I've discovered after having my own closet at my disposal over the past two months was something that surprised me: I, in fact, am a bit messy as well. My well-organized shoes rack turned out to be too much of a hassle, and I've started just dumping my shoes into any old spot in the closet as soon as I get home. My special skirt hangers have become more decoration than anything else, because they are over-crowded and shoved somewhere in the back half of the closet where it's tough to reach. Something had to change. So I did a little research. I chose an over-the-door shoe rack which saves floor space and discourages me from throwing my stuff on the floor. I got a great revolving belt hanger that doubles as a tie rack, and some hanging shelf organizers took care of the stray winter clothes and I don't wear during the summer, but don't have room to store. Now maybe I can get around to doing the same thing for the hall closet€¦

Keep Your Cosmetics Collection In Order With A Makeup ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on May 7, 2009 4:21 PM PDT
I'll admit it -- I'm a major beauty junkie. And I don't only mean that I own a lot of cosmetics, know every product that Sephora carries (or has ever carried), and that I love to compulsively buy tons and tons of makeup, as if it's an addiction, and hardly actually use any of it regularly. I actually literally have it piled all over the place in my room, bathroom, purse, and tote bags... like piles of junk. If you're anything like me and the inside linings of almost all of your bags are tarnished by a glittery residue mess from one too many screw-tops left askew, it's time to invest in a makeup organizer or train case. Face it -- we beauty mavens have a lot of makeup, most of which has probably cost us a pretty penny (and it definitely has collectively!), so it's important to keep it all in good condition for maximum use and minimum mess until it's time to chuck that empty tube, jar, or pot in the trash! Whether you need a nice big compartmental case for storage (gotta love Caboodle!), or a cute compact tote for easy travel, there's a shape, size, and function to suit any kind of beauty-sorting need! With all of your beauty goods so neat and organized, you might find yourself surprised at what a great variety you have and maybe even be inspired to try some new tricks, not to mention save some money by not re-buying things you totally forgot you already have! Check out the slideshow for some convenient cases -- if your collection is as big as mine, you might even need more than one!

Fresh Planners for the New Year!

Maybe I'm a huge nerd, but I think there's nothing more satisfying than starting a fresh planner come January. It might actually be my favorite part of the New Year (besides champagne and party dresses, of course). I'm a sort of devotee, so I'll be picking up this metallic aqua desk diary again this year. If you're not in such a long-term paper products relationship, I also love the Kate Spade canvas anne pocket organizer, which begs the question: can Kate Spade do any wrong? Check out my SLIDESHOW for lots of planners to time-manage in the New Year!

This fall, take the clutter that's building up on your floor and move it to a handy hanging organizer. You'll not only be giving yourself a bit of added square footage, but some much needed peace of mind as well. Bulletin boards are an excellent way to keep tickets, important documents, and receipts organized and at eye-level. This fabulously framed design board literally turns your clutter-prone papers into art! Another excellent way to reduce stress is by eliminating those all too familiar on your way out panic-episodes that go a little something like "Keys? Where are my keys??" This sunrise-inspired and environmentally sustainable hanging key holder lets you lock up fast on rushed mornings out the door. For more ideas on ways to promote efficiency, reduce stress, and keep all of your "stuff" organized, search the Hive! And be sure to click on SLIDESHOW to see my five fave off-the-floor organizers.
