Make The Most Of Your Closet Space!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Aug 27, 2009 5:20 AM PDT
Luckily my apartment came with two closets, because I'll tell you one thing about living with a guy-- they're messy. And the closet is the worst. What I've discovered after having my own closet at my disposal over the past two months was something that surprised me: I, in fact, am a bit messy as well. My well-organized shoes rack turned out to be too much of a hassle, and I've started just dumping my shoes into any old spot in the closet as soon as I get home. My special skirt hangers have become more decoration than anything else, because they are over-crowded and shoved somewhere in the back half of the closet where it's tough to reach. Something had to change. So I did a little research. I chose an over-the-door shoe rack which saves floor space and discourages me from throwing my stuff on the floor. I got a great revolving belt hanger that doubles as a tie rack, and some hanging shelf organizers took care of the stray winter clothes and I don't wear during the summer, but don't have room to store. Now maybe I can get around to doing the same thing for the hall closet€¦

DKNY Supports Charity CITYarts In New York City!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Aug 7, 2009 7:22 AM PDT
DKNY has designed a tee with a cause, cleverly dubbed the "Chari-Tee." DKNY's Chari-Tee is an interactive program between DKNY and those who love and wear it! The tee retails for $65 and benefits a menu of NYC organizations. Each hangtag lists five NYC charities to which you can donate. Once you've decided on the organization, log on to dkny.com and select your choice. DKNY will then donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of your Chari-tee! It's a fun, cool way to send instant love to NYC! In addition to the Chari-tee, DKNY has produced eight different eco-friendly printed totes featuring artwork of eight NYC students, created for the CITYarts "Portraits of Peace" initiative. There are 5 of each style -- 40 unique bags in total. The totes are only $25 each with all proceeds going back to CITYarts, but they'll only be available at the DKNY store on Madison Avenue, so make sure you head over if you're in the area! Don't forget to check out the Couture In The City blog for more fashion finds and style news!

Get Organized In The New Year with These Clutter-Reducing Tips!

    image
Kristin on Jan 13, 2009 9:16 AM PST
Is your New Year's resolution to organize your closet, your house, your life? If the things around you in your everyday life are in order, you might find yourself with a more orderly mind as well. So we've found some great storage items to help you reduce the clutter in your home - and maybe add to its beauty at the same time! Look for furniture that does double duty, such as a trunk-style coffee table in which you can store magazines and books. Put clothing you don't use year-round under your bed and out of the way. Hang CDs and DVDs from a door with a media rack. Save space with shelves that lean against the wall instead of a bulkier bookcase. Or put up photos on an interesting wall shelf from West Elm. You're sure to clear up space and clear your head. Check out the SLIDESHOW!

Maybe I'm a huge nerd, but I think there's nothing more satisfying than starting a fresh planner come January. It might actually be my favorite part of the New Year (besides champagne and party dresses, of course). I'm a sort of devotee, so I'll be picking up this metallic aqua desk diary again this year. If you're not in such a long-term paper products relationship, I also love the Kate Spade canvas anne pocket organizer, which begs the question: can Kate Spade do any wrong? Check out my SLIDESHOW for lots of planners to time-manage in the New Year!

Train cases are the perfect way to store your favorite beauty essentials in style. Not only would the classic cases make a pretty addition to any counter-top, but these timeless storage solutions now come in a ton of modern styles. Decadent chocolate mock-python exterior and heavy metal detailing makes it difficult to believe that the "Tricks of the Trade" train case will only set you back $17.50! For a train case with a little more brand power, consider investing the Juicy Couture for Sephora, "Juicy Loves Sephora" train case. With a striped exterior and quilted pink interior, it would be a perfectly sweet way to store your beauty faves at home or on the go. For more fabulous ways to store your beauty loot in style, search the Hive, and check out my SLIDESHOW to see my five favorite train cases.

This fabulously framed design board literally turns your clutter-prone papers into art! Another excellent way to reduce stress is by eliminating those all too familiar on your way out panic-episodes that go a little something like "Keys? Where are my keys??" This sunrise-inspired and environmentally sustainable hanging key holder lets you lock up fast on rushed mornings out the door. For more ideas on ways to promote efficiency, reduce stress, and keep all of your "stuff" organized, search the Hive! And be sure to click on SLIDESHOW to see my five fave off-the-floor organizers.
