Exhibit Your Style With Pop Art-Inspired Tees

    image
Amber Fijolek on Nov 11, 2009 2:28 PM PST
Back in the '50s Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein were on to something, and T-shirt designers right now on the cusp of 2010 know it. There's nothing like exhibiting our own art museum on the streets with the help of a graphic tee. With contrast imaging and sometimes bright, vibrant colors, these T-shirts can be as eye catching as a print on your bedroom wall. As most T-shirts, they're great for weekend wear and after-work/school comfort, but also boast a "look at me!" mentality that you'd be silly not to flaunt out and about. Commercial stores like Urban Outfitters and Wet Seal have caught on the trend, but going the vintage boutique route could also score you some killer art-piece-like wear. While it may be impossible to get an original pop-art multi-colored Marilyn Monroe lithograph portrait, an eccentric collection of pop-art inspired clothing is a fun and approachable way to tune into your inner art-lover. 8 Bandage Booties And Pumps That'll Have Your Feet Under Wraps!

Sure, it's always sad to see a once-hot trend overstay its welcome, but the good news is that some of our favorite styles don't necessarily leave the racks forever -- they just migrate to another department! What the Herve Leger bandage dress (or its more affordable counterparts) did for the body, the bandage bootie does for the feet (well, sort of). We won't go as far as describing the footwear trend as "feet-con" in the spirit of "body-con," but the thick-strapped look is similarly sexy in its banded, wrapped-up appearance. Put a sexy spin on the classic Mary Jane with this banded suede pump by Acne, or go strappy (and save!) with a multi-textured gladiator-style heel from Forever 21. Take a look at the slideshow for 8 varied takes on the bandage heel!

Channel Your Inner Monster This Halloween With "Where The ...

For a book with only 9 sentences, Where the Wild Things Are sure is making a splash in the fashion world and beyond. Published in 1963, the book has been read by generations and now we get to enjoy a live action feature length movie directed by Spike Jonze this week. Needless to say, the book and movie provides some great inspiration for a Halloween costume. Between the furry monster suit Max wears and the other frightening (yet cute) monsters, it's easy to channel your inner "wild thing." Even my favorite boutique Opening Ceremony created a capsule collection based on the characters of the movie. But chances are you've already got a fur vest or even some furry boots, so a costume fit for any wild monster is already lurking in your closet! Just add a fur skirt or find some faux fur at a craft store, add a homemade gold crown, and you're ready to go. Take a look at my slideshow that will have you ready for a "wild rumpus" this Halloween!

Go Back To School (Or Work) WIth A Stylish Backpack!

    image

I love tote bags as much as the next person but lugging my laptop, lunch, and other necessities to work everyday has taken a toll on my poor right shoulder. So I've started using a backpack as my day bag instead. The only one I have right now is an old North Face backpack from my high school days. It's still fully functional, but I've been looking for something a little more stylish instead of looking like I'm going off to hike a mountain. Lucky me, it seems like backpacks have become a trendy accessory with brands and designers from Kate Spade to Juicy Couture making backpacks fit for every fashionista. While backpacks can be seen most often in school hallways, chances are you'll also find people using backpacks outside of school and work. They distribute weight more evenly than large shoulder bags and leave the crook of your arm to hold more shopping bags instead! Take a look at my slideshow to see some stylish backpacks you should carry around this fall.

Video Style Steal: Lykke Li In "Breaking It Up"

Many pop stars throw around some sultry rock n' roll looks for their videos and magazine spreads, leaving us feeling like they're playing dress up. Not as much can be said for Swedish songstress Lykke Li-- she is the real deal. With her long blond hair and angelic eyes rimmed in black liner she is one part angel, one part rock goddess. In her video for hit song "Breaking It Up," she exudes fierce and unapologetic sex appeal. The video feels as though it's set in a modern day Warhol-esque factory and features Lykke dancing around in a totally enviable outfit. A body conscious black dress topped off with an oversized white jacket and some black booties may sound boring at first, but it's anything but. To get the look, try Opening Ceremony's zip up back lattice dress. While she wears a more exaggerated silhouette jacket, I think the Madison Marcus "Alliance" jacket would work just as well. Dangerously high black booties are funked up a little bit by layering some mid calf white socks. Don't forget to pile on the rings- one on each finger if you can, or fake it with Bijules' bar ring that covers three fingers. A long statement chain necklace adds the perfect amount of glam and rock chic making simple black and white look so good. Watch the video and check out the slideshow to see how to get Lykke's look!
