The asymmetric trend is back! For example, one-shoulder dresses, or tops with different sides like we saw at Lanvin. And don't forget the asymmetrical bathing suits! They are simply irresistible... designers from La Perla (pictured) to H&M would agree. You don't need to spend a lot to try this popular trend for summer- check stores like ASOS and Selfridges for asymmetric and one-shouldered styles that'll bring runway style to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. With the arrival of the Obamas in the White House, all eyes are on Washington, and it's not just our new president who's capturing our attention. Michelle Obama is demonstrating a true flair for fashion, and her individual style is garnering more than a few fans. With simple lines and beautiful tailoring, she brings to mind another first lady and fashion icon. Already we can identify some aspects of her signature style: her penchant for flats, Erickson Beamon floral brooches, belted dresses, and complexion-flattering jewel tones and pastels. For anyone who was left in doubt of her stylistic prowess, her Michelle Obama's inaugural gown cemented her place among the other formidable fashion mavens who have graced the White House. Check out the slideshow to see some pieces that exemplify the new Mrs. O's wardrobe.

New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Asymmetry On The Runways

You don't have to be in the front rows to tilt your head at one of Spring 2009's most notable trends. Designers have been dabbling in asymmetry for some time now but this time around, one-shouldered dresses were put front and center, a significant departure from previous seasons where the daring look seemed to be pushed to the sidelines. Max Azria looked at asymmetry from a different angle with a one-shouldered, bias-cut gown with a front halter strap, while Marc Jacobs indulged in his signature offbeat style by sending a model down the catwalk in a quirky, single shoulder-baring top. Nicole Miller layered a structured asymmetrical shift over a crisp shirt dress making the look oddly workplace appropriate, and BCBGMAXAZRIA's coral-pink asymmetrical dress was draped so beautifully, giving the illusion that it was falling off the model- intentionally, I'm certain. Click the SLIDESHOW to see who else picked up on the trend.
