New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Whitney Eve

    image

For her Spring/Summer 2010 Whitney Eve collection, Whitney Port seemed to use herself as a muse. Every single looked screamed "Whitney" and for someone like me who adores Whitney's style, that's definitely a good thing! This collection merged a downtown New York edge with a sweet and sunny California girl sensibility. Just like Whitney, it was very eclectic, funky, and had a retro reference point which was re-interpreted to create a modern feel. I absolutely died over this one slinky, metallic number! Other standouts included a cut-out brocade mini dress with a bow accent (such a great way to balance naughty and nice!) and a strapless full-skirted black dress with layers of tulle peeping through. Almost every style was adorned with ultra femme accents -- ruffles, bows, tulle, lace -- but the sweetness was definitely offset by sexy silhouettes and styles. Whitney also presented some fabulous separates, including a sharp-shouldered peplum jacket, a black blazer updated with layered of ruffles, and an oversized metallic blazer. Overall, anyone who loves Whitney's style will absolutely flip over all the pieces in her Whitney Eve line -- check the slideshow to see for yourself!

Celebs Hit Up The Cannes Film Festival For A Star-Studded ...

The Cannes Film Festival, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious celebrations of cinema, isn't just a film major's dream getaway. Aside from taking place in an unbelievably gorgeous resort town that alone could lure even the most distracted and unappreciative movie-goer, the festival is the go-to event for everyone who's anyone in the film industry for networking, premiere-hopping, and just plain lounging in resort style. This year's festival, its 62nd edition, began on the 13th with Disney's new 3D film "Up" and lured out film execs, Oscar winners, musicians, and socialites alike from their Hollywood haven (not to mention from destinations all over the world). Since its kick-off, the festival has been proceeding on with more buzzed-about unreleased, independent, and overseas films -- from Jim Carrey's "A Christmas Carol" to Pedro Almodovar's "Broken Embraces" -- with many more much-anticipated masterpieces packed in through its closing day, the 24th. While it seems the stars, including Eva Longoria, Tilda Swinton, and even Paris Hilton (but then again, what event doesn't she squeeze herself into?), are spending more time stomping the red carpet than basking by the beach, but no matter which screening or luncheon they're whisked off to next, they're always looking their vacation best, whether buttoned-up or bikini clad. Take a look at the slideshow for some of the stylish celebs spotted at Cannes! Photo credit: PR Photos

Pretty Curls Make Fashionable Girls On "The City"

Every Monday I tune in to MTV's "The City" and watch Whitney Port navigate her way through Manhattan's social scene and her constant battle of upper east versus lower east. While her co-worker Olivia Palermo may not approve of her downtown lifestyle, the one thing they can agree on is hair! Both girls have sported long, flowing curls that evoke a sense of vintage glamour. I took a minute to talk to stylist Ryan Nickulas of the Ryan Darius Salon in the West Village about how to get this oh-so-pretty, natural look he calls the "Patty Cake Curl." Start by taking medium-sized section of hair and wrap it around your finger in a circle to create a pin curl. Then take a flat iron and close it around the curl for 15-20 seconds to create the perfect "undone" curl that a curling iron just can't achieve. Work your way around your head, starting from the back and finishing with the front pieces. You'll be left with easy pretty hair in no time that can help you conquer any city!

Get City Girl Olivia Palermo's Polished Chic Look

While the character she plays, or is, on The City is pretty loathe-able, you've got to admit Olivia Palermo's style is pretty phenomenal. The socialite has a major knack for mixing and matching throwing high-end items together with low-end and playing with varying proportions, cuts, and fabrics. At the book launch for Awareness: Inspiring Stories About How to Make a Difference hosted by Kenneth Cole, Olivia looked polished and chic with a bit of edgy-fashion-forwardness thrown into the mix wearing a red skirt with cascading ruffles, a loose blazer, platform ankle boots and some seriously statement-making necklaces. This look can work for an event, the office, a date, cocktail hour, and so much more, so why not give it a go?
