Bridesmaid Colors You Never Thought Of!

    image
kate napleton on Jul 22, 2009 2:19 PM PDT
Maybe I've been to a lot of weddings, but I've seen more satin baby blue knee-length dresses than one girl ever should. Why are brides consistently drawn to boring pastels? Why not use your bridesmaid color to make a real fashion statement? Idea 1: Don't fear pattern. Maybe you could incorporate polka dots into more than just a cute bridesmaid dress, like this Ellen Tracy Polka Dot Dress. It could be involved in your place settings, even the dishes. Or try a drip-tie-dye dress like this Jones New York Hot Pink Ombre Dress. It gives just a little more interest than a typical bridesmaid choice. Idea 2: Metallics. Silver and gold go with everything, and will look great flanking you on the altar. Check out my slideshow for other fun bridesmaid color ideas!

Make Sure Your Occasion Jewelry Is Conflict-Free With Diamond ...

Not all diamonds are a girl's best friend. No one wants to look down at their jewelry and know that their stone caused conflict in far away countries and harm to their planet (thoughts we can't escape after seeing "Blood Diamond" and reading eco-friendly websites). So what do we do? Give up diamonds? The answer lies in Diamond Nexus Labs. This company was eco-friendly long before the "green" craze, and all of their diamonds are both environmentally friendly and conflict-free. However, with all the benefits to these stones, you won't be sacrificing quality-- something you'd never dream of giving up when it comes to engagement rings or special occasion jewelry.

What to Wear: Meeting His Parents!

    image
kate napleton on May 31, 2009 9:04 AM PDT
You've been with your guy for a while, and things are getting serious. His parents are coming to visit. He wants you to meet them. Try not to panic. You're charming! Guy knows that you'll wow them. Now, to decide what to wear! A few recommendations: wear something flattering, but not revealing. Don't show too much cleavage or too much leg, but hey, work your assets all the same. Choose a classic style like Calvin Klein's Laser Cut Ruffle Shirtdress. Something that will flatter your curves, but also says, hey I'm a good girl and I would make a great mother to your grandkids. If you've got a killer dress already, I recommend one pop of interest and color with your jewelry. Wearing something like Kenneth Jay Lane's Garden Cuff is great because if all else fails, it's a conversation piece. Check out my slideshow for lots of options to meet his parents!

Graduation Dresses That Are Too Cute To Be Covered By Your ...

If I had to pick one of the most unfashionable inventions ever, it's the graduation gown. Forcing kids to wear them on their big special day just seems like a cruel and unusual tradition that will never die. Sure, it makes your entire class look uniform like a big army of ants or a school of fish (depending on what horrendous color of the rainbow you're forced to don for the sake of school spirit), but it's just not the cutest way to embark upon the next chapter of your life. The only way to somewhat make up for this tragically dowdy damper of Grad Day joy is to ensure that what you're wearing underneath your gown is cute and festive enough to have you ready for the post-ceremony celebrations in one second flat (because that's how quickly you'll be disposing of that frumpy sheath)! Whether your style is fun and floral for a summery morning commencement and brunch to follow, done-up and dramatic for a momentous evening occasion and post-party, or casual-cool for your small artsy school, I've found plenty of graduation dresses that will help you start your summer right, diploma in hand (and won't make you look even bulkier under that gown)! Check out the slideshow for some of my favorite commencement day frocks!

    Savvy Gifts For Savvy Moms!

I love my mother and I love her style, but she is surprisingly hard to shop for and with Mother's Day fast approaching, I'm looking to send her something besides the same flowers as the previous year, or a last-minute card. I could always give her cash, which she loves, but of course I want something a little more personalized and memorable. The thing is, my mom is still a stylish and hip woman who, although loves anything I get her, will not really like wearing a "World's #1 Mom" sweatshirt. I'm looking for something chic and fashionable and something that she'll want to use and not just store away after May 10th. This Mother's Day, check out these featured items and see her eyes light up with true surprise and let her be the envy of all the other mothers at brunch! Anything from Swarovski studded earphones for her gym time, crocodile leather checkbook cover to patent leather, stylish diaper bags for the new mom, you're sure to find something different for your mother that she'll be happy to use every day of the year!

Take The Next Step To Your Prom Style!

    image

For some, prom isn't about the cute date, the cute dress, or the cute bag... it's the cute shoes! And, why not? It's fitting that you would pay extra special attention to what goes on your feet since you'll be on them all night, dancing it away! And of course, the wrong pair of heels could destroy your outfit -- you don't want to be the stand-out girl in the prom group pic with an embarrassing set of mom's couture-crumbling, hand-me down backups. While a great pair of shoes can match any outfit, an affair as awesome as prom is a case for some new kicks. The old, "your shoes MUST match your bag" rule has been modified since its old-wives' era inception, but like your prom bag, your shoe choice should still be a conscientious compliment to your outfit. Rhinestones, straps, gold and bit of gaud are all fair game on your prom night, so when it comes to style, as long as your steps are in check with your gown, you're ready to hit the town!
