New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Tory Burch

Designer Tory Burch's decision to opt for a presentation over a runway seemed to grant her Spring 2010 collection more justice- a fact I attribute to the attention to detail and the role of texture in her collections, elements often lost in the movement and spotlight of a runway show. This season was all about casual elegance-- printed shorts with blazers and button down shirts with skirts were on repeat, and the sequined dress/nylon anorak pairing was perhaps the coolest way to get that "oh, I just threw this on" look everyone seems to be after. In terms of texture, its use was limitless-- scalloped embroidered shorts, perforated skirts and jackets, playful boucle coordinates, and unconventionally placed pleating added up to one collection we can't wait to get our hands on. New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Tibi

If Alice in Wonderland grew up, moved to New York and became a seriously stylish fashionista, her wardrobe would most likely look a lot like the runway collection that Tibi presented at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week It looks like color-blocking and saturated hues are still in for Spring/Summer 2010, but with an eclectic twist. Colors that before would be marked as "horribly mismatched" (powdered rose and bright blue or pink and red) lived harmoniously together on breezy dresses and jumpsuits, loosely draped tops and short shorts. Sunshine yellow, coral pinks and simply sophisticated white, as well as pretty floral cut-outs added to the whimsically happy and bubbly bright colors that give the collection a feel of a sweet and candy-coated childhood. The silhouettes, however, remained very grown up with decolletage-baring tanks and tops, high hemlines that flirted with toned thighs, and sensual one-shoulder looks emphasizing the cinched waist. Coquette Goes To Fashion Week!

    image
Natalie Zee Drieu on Sep 16, 2009 5:20 AM PDT
Since last Wednesday, I've gotten a little glimpse of life as a fashion editor in NY. Here's me at the tents before my first in-person fashion show, Ports 1961. I'm wearing a fitted Max Studio black dress I got from Bloomingdale's, black DKNY tights, Elizabeth and James pumps (wrote about those here), Marc Jacobs handbag, and a leather trench coat I got from The Limited 9 years ago. Before I dive in, a huge thank you to everyone at Coach for making the trip possible for me in the first place. It's going to take me another day to get my photos organized and uploaded so here's a few highlights of my trip. Click here to see more of Coquette's fabulous fashion adventures in New York City!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Diane von Furstenberg

I always come away from a Diane von Furstenberg show (ok, ok, a DvF "picture viewing") with more ideas than both my head and wallet can handle: tons of hair accessory inspiration, the sudden urge mix patterns without abandon, and perhaps most notably, a completely overstuffed wish list. Her Spring/Summer 2010 show at New York Fashion Week was no exception- the looks presented a highly wearable, more elegant take on globetrotter style with looks ranging from printed dresses layered under belted safari jackets to saturated desert-hued separates in a variety of textures, all topped off with colorful bangles and the most playfully whimsical hairpieces. Her use of patterns was astoundingly imaginative- blurry florals, gilded ethnic designs, and slightly abstract animal prints made for a collection that was adventurous and refined all at once, not to mention realistic-- whether intentional or not, the idea of layering a simple grey tee under an embellished dress exhibits the kind of stylish versatility we can all appreciate these days. Modern Footwear Meets Urban Romance With 80%20 Shoes At ...

The new 80%20 Shoes fall collection has just landed at Karmaloop.com! Designer and owner CeCe Chin first conceived the New York-based label in 2004, when she came up with the concept that 80% of the time we tend to wear our favorite 20% of our wardrobe. The smallest percent has the greatest impact. 80% life, 20% shoes = 100% LOVE! Genius, right? The new collection yields nothing short of stylish and chic footwear. Chin found inspiration in the urban romance and creative vision prevalent in the early 80s, particularly in NYC. Strength and femininity are pervading themes throughout the collection, as she updates her signature hidden wedges with cut outs, buckles and chains. Classic references are also drawn with bridle leather, buffalo check patterns and neutral color palettes. The complete collection presents itself as the footwear for a modern city warrior, arming herself with creativity, functional style and optimism for possibilities to come! My favorite picks are the Ruby Gathered Hidden Wedge Boot, the Zoey Geisha Gladiator Wooden Wedge and the Bobbie Gathered Hidden Wedge Boot. Coquette Will Attend Fashion's Night Out At Coach!

    image

I'm really excited that I'll be a special guest of Coach attending their Fashion's Night Out event on Thursday, September 10th at the Coach Flagship store at 595 Madison Avenue. Coach is hosting a one-of-a-kind fete that will feature famed graffiti artist Pesu and whimsical, Brooklyn-based illustrator Kiersten Essenpreis, creating completely customized and off-the-cuff creations! Both artists will be using Coach's limited edition Fashion's Night Out tote as their canvas and will be in store from 7pm until 10pm, with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres served. I can't wait to see these artists work their magic on the totes! Don't forget to check back at Coquette for my report of the evening!
