Hand-blown with applied beak and head. The 'foot' was drawn from the body. The body was made in cased glass, with a clear outer layer covering milky white and yellow. The birds jewel spots were incorporated at different levels in the layers giving it a 3-dimensional look. The ruby head is hollow. Toikka used a number of very difficult techniques on this special bird.
The Jewelled Kiwi (Jalokiwi in Finnish) was designed in 2001 and is a must have for collectors. This striking glass art bird would make a memorable and classy gift for anyone, collector or not.
Each bird in the Toikka collection is made by hand in Finland. No two are exactly alike. All are signed by Toikka and include the iittala label and gift box. Also included is a pamphlet about Toikka and Iittala, including images of 40 birds with their names and date of design.
