Forever Plaid: Wear This Season's Preferred Print

    image
Amber Fijolek on Oct 13, 2009 10:20 AM PDT
It's something we've all got somewhere in our wardrobe -- mainly because plaid could quite possibly be one of the most versatile five letter words in fashion. The thick and thin lines crossing each other in contrasting colors dating back to the first bag-pipers can be dug back out of the closet -- with the right pairings, plaid can say a lot about your style. While some moments of seasons past are too horrible to return to, the look of plaid flannel shirts that dominated the nineties are an acceptable role model for today's trends. With motifs from comfortable to casual, plaid makes looking cute natural and effortless. Add a pair of light-wash jeans, and plaid's preppy; add a bow, and plaid's sweet. Draw attention to yourself with whichever plaid personality you want to flaunt this season and take a peek at the slideshow for ideas!

Nineties fashion darling Christian Francis Roth is back in action! At 21 he was welcomed with open arms by 7th avenue as their latest prodigy with his designer label Christian Francis Roth. This spring marks his comeback to the New York fashion world with Francis, an upbeat women's contemporary line. The collection offers fresh, happy modern clothes for the girl who is looking for something with a cool new vibe. Known for his Crayola crayon colors and pop art references, the new collection retains all of the interesting detailing and lighthearted approach he did in the 90's. The collection is meeting the girl gangs roaming the halls in "Gossip Girl" and the cult flick The Warriors, leaving us with a tongue-in-cheek look. Preppy staples like classic blazers with oversized crests and polo dresses are mixed with downtown cool graffiti prints and flirty cocktail dresses, perfect for the uptown girl living in a downtown world. The line hits the streets soon, so grab your own girl gang and your wallet and head to the stores! Christian Francis Roth will be available at Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom stores nationwide.

In A Costume Crunch? The Nineties Never Looked So Good!

Are you the type to pull together a Halloween costume at the last minute? Or perhaps you don't have to cash to purchase one of those pricey costumes? Well, I have the perfect Halloween costume idea that you can find buried in the depths of your closet, underneath a decade of old fads and tried trends. This Halloween, go back in time (but not too far) to the nineties! Revive your favorite rock or grunge band--I've already called dibs on Courtney Love, okay? Or reenact everyone's favorite TV series that is quintessentially nineties- Beverly Hills, 90210! Dress up as two-timing Kelly Taylor by pairing a floral dress with a jean vest or be Brenda with a light-washed denim skirt and a crop-top! And don't forget Donna Martin in those solid-colored, skin-tight mini dresses! Check out my SLIDESHOW to see how to recreate the duds and drama of the real 90210 this Halloween!

Hive 5: Cuffed Sleeves and Cutoffs, 90210 Style

    image

The new 90210 premieres on September 2, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm kind of going to miss the California-cool 90s looks that practically defined the era, you know, long before Alexander Wang and the like decided to bring the cuffed sleeves and cutoffs back at prices that make a trip to the gas station feel like bargain shopping...humph. Ok, rant over. In honor of the show's much-anticipated return, I went back in time searching the Hive for nineties-inspired clothes that I'd happily wear now, except for maybe a black bodysuit. Not so sure about that one. But an oversized, perfectly draped tee tucked into some light-wash distressed denim shorts? Now we're talking. But back to what I was saying before, I honestly hope the clothes on the new 90210 do impress, because if Luke Perry isn't coming back, I'll need something to hold my attention...
