    Fall Trend Alert: Leather Jewelry!

    image
Adriana Nova on Aug 17, 2009 8:23 AM PDT
The upcoming fall fashion season will be heavy with rich textures and colors. Metallics, tweeds, and leather in all its forms--including jewelry. Jewelry? Leather accessories are mother's milk for the style-conscious (thinking about how much leather I personally own between shoes, purses, and jackets alone likely places me in PETA's crosshairs). Leather jewelry, however, is a niche in accessories that's not often thought of much. Mostly, I think, because people tend to envision Bondage or Dude Ranch homages whenever you hear "leather choker" (er, not that there's anything wrong with that!). However, there's a lot of gorgeous leather tooling in jewelry going on at the moment, particularly within Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 line, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite accessories brands. I like what leather jewelry does for an outfit: it takes a fabric typically reserved for hard use and turns it into something delicate, not to mention the dimension of texture it immediately adds to any look. Added bonus: price points that are normally reasonable and within reach. Take a look at selections from Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, and Anthropologie, among others, in my slideshow!

We love Nicole Richie's style. And we love that, even when she's pregnant, she still looks extremely well put-together and fashionable. She doesn't let a little baby weight get her down! And now she's bringing her maternity style to everyone. Nicole's getting ready to have her second baby and the girl looks good. And now she's partnering up with A Pea in the Pod to bring her maternity fashions to everyone. According to Nicole, "A Pea in the Pod and I joined to create a capsule collection of maternity wear that will be available in stores this summer. Last weekend I shot some images for the campaign with one of my favorite photographers, James White. I'm really excited for you all to see the new collection." The Pea in the Pod clothing line is due out at the end of the summer (get it, due?!) and we can't wait to see what it looks like. Knowing Nicole Richie, it's going to be pretty, bohemian chic designs and we'll probably love it. We can definitely see lots of moms-to-be wanting to look as chic as the pregnant Nicole! It's also been said that Nicole Richie and boyfriend Joel Madden are furnishing the entire baby nursery in a green, environmentally-friendly manner. As the years go by, we just like Nicole Richie more and more! To see more about Nicole Richie and her A Pea In The Pod partnership, click on over to our friends at Limelife!

Ever see candid photos of your favorite stylish celebs and wonder how they manage to look so effortlessly chic in something as simple as a slouchy white tee? The truth is, those handy white tees aren't just your average Fruit of the Loom cotton shirt -- in the case of starlets like Hilary Duff, Nicole Richie, Vanessa Hudgens, and Lindsay Lohan, they're often donning the ultra-comfy variety courtesy of Hollywood favorite brand, Division E. Now with their first-ever women's collection, the brand designs tops that are body-conscious and universally flattering while still maintaining that casual-cool feel. With both basic and not-so-basic designs (with added details like graphics, grommets, and other hardware), the tees range from plain and classic to rock 'n roll and edgy, making them perfect for both dressing up and dressing down. Good thing they're so versatile, because they're so comfy you'll want to live in them 24/7! You can find the brand online at boutiquetoyou.com!

    Go Poolside In Paisley!

    image
Amber Fijolek on May 21, 2009 8:17 AM PDT
This just in: Vera Bradley's good friend Paisley is rockin' the boat. This curvy chick sure knows a thing or two about being a pretty pattern -- and summer has taken her by storm. Yacht and country club cuties, as well as the beach bunnies of the coastal lake or sea are bound to see a lot of paisley this season, although this stylish sister isn't new to being on the fashion bandwagon. Paisley is already synonymous with style in the customarily feminine-design of bohemian-decorated teardrop shapes, commonly stenciled in vibrant colors. Spanning from bandana-inspired to flower-like prints, these waterfront creations are a large hit for this season's beach couture. Fabrics adorning the minutely detailed figures are certainly patterns frequented by a younger crowd, but babes aren't the only ones who crave the foxy fad, as the girlie prints are a favorite of stars like Nicole Richie, Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler. Take a swim in the sweet company of a paisley-print swimsuit, and you'll find yourself in awe of splashing spectators as they admire an innocence that only paisley can generate!

Talitha Getty's Style Lives On Through Boho-Inspired Pieces

    image
Adriana Nova on May 19, 2009 8:25 AM PDT
The adage "live fast, die young" applies to few people quite as well as it does Talitha Getty. A victim of her own excessive lifestyle, the Dutch-descended Getty died in 1971 at age 30 of a drug overdose, yet left behind a style legacy that's become a cultural touchstone: designers as disparate as Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Michael Kors, and Christian Dior are among the many who've cited Getty's signature Marrakesh-meets-mod fashions as inspiration for various collections. Gamine, almond-eyed, and possessed of a confident style that drew on the twin influences of the Moroccan souks she frequented and the London-based Swinging '60s crowd she ran with, Getty was immortalized in Patrick Lichfield's iconic photograph of her and husband John Paul Getty, Jr., on the rooftop of their infamous home in Morocco dubbed "The Pleasure Palace." The image captured not just the beautifully tragic air that surrounded the Gettys, but also Talitha's groundbreaking boho-chic aesthetic. Flowing caftans, mounds of costume jewelry, fur-trimmed mod dresses, filmy silk scarves, and gauzy harem pants were some of the hallmarks of her repertoire but, more than that, it was her laissez-faire, creative approach to blending style genres that prompted designers like Yves Saint Laurent to declare, "When I knew Talitha Getty my vision completely changed." Getty's seemingly direct fashion descendants include Jade Jagger, Nicole Richie, and Kelly Killoren Bensimon, the latter having proclaimed her admiration of Getty openly. Talitha Getty's casual-elegant style is perfect for the coming summer months, and I've put together a slideshow to show you how to achieve it-- check it out.
