Label Love: Fashion Meets Architecture With CHROMAT

It's sexy. It's edgy. It's Chromat. Started by two architecture students from University of Virginia, Chromat is an experiment of human form and the unique structures and shapes it can take. Chromat features a strong architectural undertone in all it's collections, but each collection is truly unique and intriguing in it's own right. Using bright colors, somber colors, innovative silhouettes and additional exterior build-ons, student turned designers, Becca McCharen and Emily Kappes, not only show their creativity in merging architecture with fashion, but manage to keep it sexy and chic the whole time. Personal favorite is the S/S 2010 Collection: Cities and Cages. Corset like contraptions in black piping are fitted over body-conscious dresses, then flaring out to a crinoline like silhouette. Dresses range from black and white to soft greys and the occasional pop of red or fuchsia and are feminine and sometimes frilly, up until the bondage-inspired cage add-on. While some of the pieces do scream S&M a little too much for my tastes, the pieces that do it right are so right. It's sexy, it's edgy. It's the S/S 2020 collection from Chromat and definitely worth checking out! Click on the slideshow to see some of my favorite 'Cities and Cages' pieces!

Founded in 1998 and quickly gaining critical acclaim and an ever growing fan base, Yigal Azrouel isn't exactly a newcomer, but I just recently discovered his line of modern, sensual pieces and immediately fell in love. Isreal-born desiger, Yigal Azrouel is a self-taught draper who has reached genius status. Sumptuous knits, silks and other luxurious fabrics are twisted and draped expertly to flatter the female form. The dresses are definite objects of desire with classic shapes given an edgy makeover and a healthy dose of sex appeal. Peek-a-boo cutouts, body skimming fabrics, and of course, gorgeous and flattering draping, Yigal Azrouel dresses and 'basics' are not only chic and youthful, but surprisingly versatile as well. A classically somber color palette of black, white, and greys lets the beauty and quality Yigal Azrouel's designs speak for themselves. But you don't have to hear me go on gushing about this amazing (and cute!) young designer, just click on the slideshow to see some favorites of Yigal Azrouel's latest creations!
