Amsterdam International Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2010: ...

    image

Students of Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) showed their seventh collection for the school's label "Individuals." The young designers presented a collection called "LaLaLa," a title that perfectly described a series of fascinating pieces. Besides the prints with LaLaLa, it was a collection with a true LaLaLa attitude. Strong and soft looking outfits were mixed and included sharp looking artisan white jackets with big shoulders. Some were knee-length, looking beautifully powerful. The Margiela-esque corsets made of leather ice skates in skin tones were attached to soft shirts, or mixed with skirts creating a confident look without being too severe. The golden leggings looked like armor. All pieces were in soft colors- eggshell, nude, off-white- which gave the strong outfits an air of lightness. Sheer tops and pleated blouses covered more rigid pieces, making the outfits look less serious and more femininely whimsical. Evening dresses looked elegant, done in flowing materials. This collection proved that hard-edge fashion can be comfortable and fragile at the same time.

Looks like a case of Giuseppe fever has hit the blog universe! Both KRISTOPHER DUKES and The Shoe Goddess have their eyes on more than a few pairs, and speaking as someone who succumbed to a pair recently, I don't blame them- but see for yourself. Curious about Nicole Richie's House of Harlow jewelry line? It's definitely not your typical celebrity fashion deal, and that's a good thing these days, wouldn't you agree? Need a new trend to try out for spring- or just for now? Coquette picks up on chevron striped cardigans and dresses, while Shopping and Info takes note of neutral tones- Angelina Jolie's a fan! Plus, catch stories on the Nars Spring 2009 makeup collection, Golden Globes red carpet fashion, the Nina Ricci vs. "Twilight" perfume saga, and more. Plum, The New Neutral? We Say Yes!

Everywhere you look this season, plum accessories and details seem to be at the forefront of fashion. And while some might argue that this color is a seasonal trend, I would like to make the argument for plum to join the ranks of black, navy, and brown as a new neutral color. Plum can be worn more flexibly than navy, because it doesn't clash with black. It's also a breath of fresh air for workwear, and a fun plum heel adds a level of interest to an outfit without being too garish. Check out my SLIDESHOW to take a bite out of our favorite plum picks!

Thumbing through the Aussie Stylediary pages, I noticed that a lot of really cute outfits were quite neutral in color. Down under, the palate may be very muted, but this international style screams posh as well as super feminine. Well, I don't know if it's because they're sick of bright colors from living in a perpetual summer, but throw some of those lovely beiges, greys, blacks, creams, taupes, and whites stateside! Check out seven Australian Stylediarists and their toned down pieces that would be sure to boost any wardrobe, in my slideshow!
