How To Sew Your Own Bib Necklace

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 2, 2009 7:22 AM PDT
Nicole Smith is an editor at CraftStylish, a site dedicated to original do-it-yourself projects for home, fashion, wedding, and more. Below she shares how to sew your own bib necklace... and in turn, save yourself from a thousand-dollar debt at Neiman Marcus!

While looking at the inspirational catalog from Neiman Marcus today, I came across this necklace by Ranjana Khan. The necklace retails for $1,200, and is very similar to this project I made for less than $20, which I call the "Bijoux Necklace." My original inspiration for this project was a necklace by Burberry from their Fall '08 collections. Chunky jewels have been a runway staple the past few seasons, embellishing everything from shoes and headbands to hemlines and jewelry. Get the look quickly with organza (don't worry; it's easy to sew) and faux jewels. A ribbon makes the necklace adjustable for a chocker length or longer. You can also enlarge or reduce the size of the template to any dimensions you like. You'll need: 1/4 yard of organza, 3/4 yard of 5/8-inch-wide velvet ribbon, assorted sew-on jewels, scissors, a sewing machine, a hand-sewing needle, and thread. Get the full step-by-step instructions, along with the pattern's template, on CraftStylish!

Steal Your Boyfriend's Look With The Must-Have Cardigan For ...

    image

The boyfriend cardigan is a great transition item from cooler to warmer temps. It's the perfect sweater to throw on as an afterthought when you need something to keep you a bit warmer, and it's great as a staple top, too. Okay, so none of my boyfriends have ever worn cardigans (I tried to get one to try the look, actually, and he would have none of it!), so it may not be aptly named. But who cares what it's called as long as it looks cute?! The idea is that it's a bit over-sized, slouchy, comfy and cozy, and that's all that matters! The opportunities with this piece are endless. It can be thrown over a spring-y dress, or paired with a t-shirt and jeans. It's a great way to add a warmer layer to a shift dress, and it goes well with tights, denim, boots, flats, even heels. Try the look with a more winter-themed outfit, or go for something lighter. There are all different colors and patterns to suit your whim, but even one or two staple colors will work just fine. You'll find yourself wondering how you ever managed without it! Check out more spring style staples from our friends at TheFind!

    Vintage Fashionistas Are Tickled Pink!

Ah, pink! It's a color associated with Mattel's Barbies, Mary Kay's cadillacs and little girls everywhere. But did you know that between the 1920s and 1940s, it was blue that was considered dainty and delicate and appropriate for girls and that pink was considered to be the more masculine color appropriate for boys! Sometime in the 1940s, societal norms shifted and now pink is back and bigger than ever! Neiman Marcus called pink one of this season's Top Trends so we can expect to see big and little girls alike strutting their stuff in cerise, fuchsia, magenta, and flamingo shades. And these powerful pink colors have a way of saying "Yes, I'm feminine but I also mean business!" So click the slideshow for some fab vintage finds that will tickle you pink!
