Add Vintage Appeal To Your Look With A Pocket Watch Necklace!

    image

One accessory of the past that I wish had never gone out of style is the pocket watch necklace, or pendant watch. There's something so refined and sophisticated about this vintage-inspired timepiece, dangling elegantly from a chain and worn as a necklace, or placed carefully inside a breast pocket. While watches can also be beautiful, a watch necklace is not only eye-catching, but unique and practical as well. Is there anything else you could ask for from a piece of jewelry? With the layered look still at the forefront of jewelry trends today, a pocket watch necklace frees up a wrist from an everyday watch and allows you to pile on a few more bangles and bracelets. Plus, a pocket watch necklace nestled amongst other chains and necklaces adds interest and texture, giving the wearer a look that's both vintage and modern. It's all about making a personal statement through jewelry these days. Chunky bracelets, multi-layered necklaces and huge earrings help add character and individual style to sleek outfits, but many times, these gorgeous works of wearable art cost more than we're willing to shell out. The great thing about statement jewelry is that it's eye-catching and highly memorable, but the downside is also how memorable it can be. Sure, you could wear your statement piece every day, and you'd certainly get your money's worth, but people would probably begin to notice and you might get bored of the piece yourself! Check out the slideshow for our favorite standout pieces and scoop up a few to add to your outfits- at under $50 each, you can shift your thinking to style statements, not bank statements!

WhatsWear Has Discovered A Way To Tweet In Gold And Diamonds

    image

Twitter just became a whole lot more relevant to me. For today I learned that Twitter can now be something I wear around my neck... in gold.. and diamonds. Survival of the Hippest is a hot new accessories line inspired by the same social networking system that caused Miley Cyrus to rap and LL to fight even more publicly with Samantha Ronson. Using your TwitterName (or "hashtag" comment if you know what the hell this is), SOTH creates beautiful jewelry -- fairly reminiscent of the name necklaces made popular by Carrie Bradshaw. They are custom-made out of sterling silver, 14k gold and [drool] diamonds, and can be placed on a necklace, a key chain, a bracelet, an anklet or a pin. As SOTH pointed out, wearing your Twitter ID around a visible body part will helpfully point you out to your virtual friends, who they note "may not recognize you from your proper name or tiny Twitter picture"... seriously, a SOTH piece isn't just fashionable, it is your gilded token to making actual flesh-and-blood friends! Also, we must mention these necklaces and bracelets work perfectly as a fun layering piece or as a unique present for your friend who has everything. You can even show these Twitterific pieces to your grandchildren while explaining the Twitter phenomenon. Think about it, they'll most likely be vintage in just a couple decades! When you're not busy tweeting, don't forget to visit our friends at WhatsWear for more unique design finds!

Miss Bibi Jewelry Let's You Wear Your Life in Miniature!

Inspired by the world of childhood and nostalgia, Miss Bibi (Brigitte Giraudi) creates mini-sized household items and turns them into whimsical jewelry pieces. With a background in 3D Illustration and Stop Frame Animation, Miss Bibi started working by making models of miniature sets for animation movies. Then one day, her love of all things mini translated into the work of jewelry creations and so was born the first collection of miniaturized objects to wear! Made from silver and sometimes plated in gold, her first collection draws from not only household objects, but also from that famous detective game we all grew up with: Clue! Inspiration turned out mini chandeliers, knives, guns, and other less murderous household items. If you're feeling a little more dollhouse and less murder mystery, pick from an array of more gentle offerings like mini chairs, hearts, and high-heeled shoes. Check out the slideshow for some amazing tiny styles! See more and buy online at Missbibi.com, because really... who can resist anything made in miniature?

    Fall Trend Alert: Leather Jewelry!

    image
Adriana Nova on Aug 17, 2009 8:23 AM PDT
The upcoming fall fashion season will be heavy with rich textures and colors. Metallics, tweeds, and leather in all its forms--including jewelry. Jewelry? Leather accessories are mother's milk for the style-conscious (thinking about how much leather I personally own between shoes, purses, and jackets alone likely places me in PETA's crosshairs). Leather jewelry, however, is a niche in accessories that's not often thought of much. Mostly, I think, because people tend to envision Bondage or Dude Ranch homages whenever you hear "leather choker" (er, not that there's anything wrong with that!). However, there's a lot of gorgeous leather tooling in jewelry going on at the moment, particularly within Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 line, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite accessories brands. I like what leather jewelry does for an outfit: it takes a fabric typically reserved for hard use and turns it into something delicate, not to mention the dimension of texture it immediately adds to any look. Added bonus: price points that are normally reasonable and within reach. Take a look at selections from Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, and Anthropologie, among others, in my slideshow!

We recently fell in love with Fancy Picnic, a hot new company on the DIY scene. UK Designer Charlotte creates multi-textural pieces that will help you add those finishing touches to your favorite outfits. Charlotte loves working with gorgeous textiles, silken threads, luscious braids, vintage buttons and sparkly beads as she creates a variety of wearable jewelry. And the bright colors will spice up your late summer and fall outfits. We've also found some of our other favorite designers dishing up some tempting textile eye candy. Check out gorgeous necklaces by 7thMagpie, Shagpile, and Kirev8. And if you need an elegant neutral piece, All Things Pretty's "Once Upon A Time" necklace for $195 is a must see. This dreamy piece, made from layers of lace, vintage and antique, crocheted and tatted - it is a real work of art. Check out our slideshow for some more handmade designer textile pieces.
