Amp Up Your Look With StrangeBeautiful's Luxe Nail Lacquers

    image
Pauline Montupet on Aug 31, 2009 8:16 AM PDT
Ok I'll admit it. I'm an addict! A nail polish addict. I'm constantly looking for a new color, new nail art, anything out of the ordinary for my nails! I'm just not content wearing a basic nude on my fingers or the latest trendy color from Chanel on my toes. I want something different. That's why I adore this new line of nail colors from STRANGEBEAUTIFUL. These luxe nail lacquers are sold exclusively in sets of eight (called a Library of Color) and packaged in an engraved, handcrafted lucite box. Volume 1, out now, has a well edited mix of cool creamy colors like bright turquoise, clementine orange, soft lilac, and a milk chocolaty brown amongst the offerings. Volume 2, just released, is stocked with milky nudes and browns as well as the faded red of a lobster shell, lemon curd yellow and a deep inky purple. These are not your usual drugstore nail polish shades! Because each collection is limited edition and one-of-a-kind, when they're sold they won't be offered again, so you only have a limited time to stash them into your nail polish arsenal! STRANGEBEAUTIFUL's Library of Colors are available for $79 and sold at Bergdorf Goodman and LuckyScent.com.

Lipsmacker Exfoliants and More Drugstore Bargain Beauty Bump-Ups!

To look pretty on less cash, you could yoink your roommate's fancy conditioner and hope she doesn't notice. Or you could try out these drugstore and designer beauty bait-and-switches. Either way, you'll look so good only your stylist will know for sure what you did!

    1. Color formulas are generally the same among mascara products, so no need to spring for a department store version. Black is black at $7 or $20. But it is worth investing in a clean mascara wand or comb that you can use to separate your lashes before the cheaper one dries.

    2. Instead of giving yourself a spritz of pricey perfume, get a more subtle version of the scent all over your body. Spend less for the fragrance's body lotion or cream and blend with unscented generic-brand lotion.

If you've ever stepped foot inside Kitson LA, you've probably noticed that they carry pretty much everything except the kitchen sink... and their own nail polish -- until now! Inspired by the colorful backdrop of Los Angeles, Kitson LA Nail Polish will offer ten shades with names like Kitson Kisses, Paparrazi Red, and Kitson Envy (which is a far cuter color than "Smoggy Gray-Green" would have been) and incorporates hues with both glossy and matte finishes. And you don't have to feel bad about stinking up the room while you touch-up your tips -- the formula is non-toxic and lead-free! These colors officially arrive in store and online at www.shopkitson.com in two weeks, so make sure to plan ahead so you can grab yours before fellow shoppers like Nicole Richie and Ashley Tisdale snatch them all up!

Hot In The Hive: OPI Axxium Gels For Perfect Nails!

There is nothing more feminine that a well-done manicure. The precise prettiness and the pampering makes it lovely to be a woman. With a fresh manicure, you can be wearing your weekend sweats and still feel polished and put-together. I prefer to give myself manicures purely for the reason that it's cheaper for me to do it at home. I can't stand chipped nails and as soon as my manicure gets a little ratty, I whisk off the offending color and put on a few new coats. The problem is, it is a fast-paced world and we are only becoming busier and busier. A busy schedule is a manicure's worst nightmare as polish becomes dented or chipped easily and there's no time to fix it. What is a girl to do?! Nail polish companies have long been pumping out products that promise long wear, chip-resistance, press-and-go, and peel-and-stick options. Some work better than others, but none work quite as well as OPI's new Axxium Gel for nails. These little tubs of color are made from the same substance as the acrylic nails that many of us have been so used to. The difference is that these gels are thinner than their early counterparts and are pliable as regular polish, therefore look more natural and real. They also form a bond to the nail after being set with a UV light and can be painted over with regular polish if you want to change it up! They last up to 3 weeks chip free and require just a touch-up fill after that. They are easily removed by soaking the nails in an acetone-based solvent for 15 minutes and are a favorite for busy celebrities like Beyonce! So the next time you want to give your nails a little loving, ask about the OPI Axxium Gel polish. Sessions are on average $40 and up. Or get the kit and save yourself time and money at home!

Price: $40+ for salon manicure, $108.95 for the Axxium Intro Kit
