Tone Down The Shimmer This Season With Matte Grey Makeup Shades

    image

Say so long to pearlescent gunmetal and chromed-out silvers -- matte grey is the hot beauty shade for the chilly season ahead! Matte nails have already taken the beauty world by storm, but now other makeup products are following in hot pursuit! From soft stone gray to rich chalky charcoal, there's something about matte grey that gives the face an unexpected warmer look than the more common frosty silver shades. While I've noticed that grey shadow seems to bring the best out of green peepers, it's hard to find someone who can't pull off a dark slate eyeliner in place of your basic black. Plus, mattifying your lids leaves room for shimmer elsewhere (ie: cheeks or lips) and helps ensure a balance so that your face doesn't end up looking like a shiny disco ball! Watch the slideshow for a series of grey shades to consider adding to your cosmetics collection!

Hot In The Hive: R.I.P. Tombstone Nail Color

So far, we've given you lots of options for Halloween makeup, in case you're looking for an excuse to splurge on more dramatic products and shades you may normally not allow yourself to indulge in on any average day. But what if your beauty budget doesn't exactly allow for high-end costume-y makeup you know you'll never use again until it's way past its expiration date? Luckily, the lines carried at Sephora aren't the only ones boasting Halloween-friendly products -- bargain drugstore brands are going festive with their shades too. Wet 'N Wild's costume-specific line, Fantasy Makers, has just released their own mini-collection of R.I.P. Tombstone Nail Polish just for the spooky season. While the three different shades (shiny black, multicolored glitter, and a sheer glow-in-the-dark shade) are pretty "Halloweenie," they're inexpensive enough to be worth the splurge. Plus, the bottle is totally cute, in an appropriately morbid sort of way...

    Price: $2.50 each

Hot In The Hive: Spooky Nail Appliques By Dashing Diva

When I was younger (too young to start destroying my stubby natural nails by getting routine acrylic manicures), I used to look forward to Halloween as a chance to break out the press-on nails and have glamorous (if not slightly terrifying) talons for a night. And now that I'm old enough to have long outgrown the bad habit of chomping on my tips, I have to say a part of me still loves the excuse to splurge on a full set at the salon, or even some nail art airbrushing if I'm feeling super "adventurous." But let's face it -- times are tough, and there are cheaper (and less messy) options out there other than hitting up the manicurist or trying your hand at those Nail Art pens this Halloween. Dashing Diva Design Nails come with a multi-sized set of press-on nails with festive designs like skulls and diamonds or a black French manicure. They're nice and thin, so they'll feel and look much more natural than the plasticky cheap-o ones at the drugstore, and they'll be less likely to pop off when you stick your hand in the candy bowl. Eek!

Ok I'll admit it. I'm an addict! A nail polish addict. I'm constantly looking for a new color, new nail art, anything out of the ordinary for my nails! I'm just not content wearing a basic nude on my fingers or the latest trendy color from Chanel on my toes. I want something different. That's why I adore this new line of nail colors from STRANGEBEAUTIFUL. These luxe nail lacquers are sold exclusively in sets of eight (called a Library of Color) and packaged in an engraved, handcrafted lucite box. Volume 1, out now, has a well edited mix of cool creamy colors like bright turquoise, clementine orange, soft lilac, and a milk chocolaty brown amongst the offerings. Volume 2, just released, is stocked with milky nudes and browns as well as the faded red of a lobster shell, lemon curd yellow and a deep inky purple. These are not your usual drugstore nail polish shades! Because each collection is limited edition and one-of-a-kind, when they're sold they won't be offered again, so you only have a limited time to stash them into your nail polish arsenal! STRANGEBEAUTIFUL's Library of Colors are available for $79 and sold at Bergdorf Goodman and LuckyScent.com.

Hot In The Hive: Nail Airbrush Kit

During these tough times, it's easy to feel guilty about spending money to get your nails done on a regular basis. Sure, you may consider manicures about as important as meals, but still -- the costs add up. So when it comes to splurging on fancier polishes and treatments at the salon, say airbrushing for example, the costs add up even faster. Give your wallet a rest and opt for an at-home Nail Airbrush Kit! (Okay, so it's kind of a splurge in the beginning, but you'd be saving money in the long-run!) The kit comes with a collection of colors and laser-cut designs so you can get the glamour of salon-done nails without needing to tip the chatty technician. Plus, you can polish while staying in your pajamas and spare yourself the judgmental looks from other customers!

    Price: $180

Lipsmacker Exfoliants and More Drugstore Bargain Beauty Bump-Ups!

To look pretty on less cash, you could yoink your roommate's fancy conditioner and hope she doesn't notice. Or you could try out these drugstore and designer beauty bait-and-switches. Either way, you'll look so good only your stylist will know for sure what you did!

    1. Color formulas are generally the same among mascara products, so no need to spring for a department store version. Black is black at $7 or $20. But it is worth investing in a clean mascara wand or comb that you can use to separate your lashes before the cheaper one dries.

    2. Instead of giving yourself a spritz of pricey perfume, get a more subtle version of the scent all over your body. Spend less for the fragrance's body lotion or cream and blend with unscented generic-brand lotion.
