Exhibit Your Style With Pop Art-Inspired Tees

    image
Amber Fijolek on Nov 11, 2009 2:28 PM PST
Back in the '50s Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein were on to something, and T-shirt designers right now on the cusp of 2010 know it. There's nothing like exhibiting our own art museum on the streets with the help of a graphic tee. With contrast imaging and sometimes bright, vibrant colors, these T-shirts can be as eye catching as a print on your bedroom wall. As most T-shirts, they're great for weekend wear and after-work/school comfort, but also boast a "look at me!" mentality that you'd be silly not to flaunt out and about. Commercial stores like Urban Outfitters and Wet Seal have caught on the trend, but going the vintage boutique route could also score you some killer art-piece-like wear. While it may be impossible to get an original pop-art multi-colored Marilyn Monroe lithograph portrait, an eccentric collection of pop-art inspired clothing is a fun and approachable way to tune into your inner art-lover. YOOX Celebrates "American Glamour" With FIT And An Exclusive ...

Vintage Halston, Bill Blass, Rodarte. If your heart rate sped up just a bit upon reading those words, you'll want to check out the vintage sale going on at YOOX right now! It's a part of American Glamour, a YOOX shopping event, and American Beauty: Aesthetics & Innovation, an FIT exhibition that debuted last Friday. The exhibit features about 75 couture masterpieces from 20 designers, while the American Glamour sale will showcase a collection of samples by fifteen designers including the aforementioned Halston and Blass, plus other legendary couturiers and even some contemporary designers (Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte, Ralph Rucci, Isabel Toledo, to name a few). Part of the motivation behind the event is to show that America's contribution to fashion goes far beyond the invention of sportswear and the rise of mass marketing, and also to provide a highly curated collection of one-of-a-kind items to breathe life into an industry where trends are exhausted and uniqueness is often hard to come by. Go From A Museum Tour To Suntanning At The Beach In A Pinch

Quite often, you'll find me lamenting the fact that we never have enough hours in the day. There seems to be so little time for everything we need to do that we're multi-tasking at every moment. From watching tv, reading the latest blogs, and catching up with a friend on the phone all at the same time, it can get hectic. If that sounds like you, then you've probably had moments where you needed your clothes to multi-task too! Consider this possible scenario: you're heading to a museum for a fun day of art and culture and you also have a beach party to go to later in the afternoon. Of course, you don't have the time to go home and change in between. What's a girl to do? All you need is a wrap dress, a boyfriend blazer, and other simple items! With the right outfit, adding and subtracting jewelry and other accessories, you can fit right in at the museum yet still look beach appropriate later. Check out my slideshow to see how it's done!

Style Party: Mixing Fashion and Art at Bass Museum

    image

I recently attended SWANK: A Mad Tea Party @ Bass Museum of Art, and let me tell you, they put on a hell of a party down there, inviting DJ Lauren A. for dancing on the Museum's terrace, mini cupcakes like those Alice was served during the 'tea party' (passed around on cool lit-up white square trays), and tropical cocktails instead of tea. The party was a blast, with eclectic music that kept everyone moving and shouting for a few words. The Bass put together a group of very interesting artists to help us travel down Alice's rabbit hole, including Miami designers Karelle Levy for the Mad costumes, and Cindy Borjas of Rella Jewelry. Installation in the Bass Cafe created by local designers Blanco and Jurgen looked amazing, and made me feel like Alice herself! Robert Wilson's VOOM Portraits were displayed on life size flat panel TV's. The famous characters in the portraits appeared still at first, but then you would see an eye blink, a hand move, or simply a dog breathe heavily...so cool! See my slideshow for party pics!
