How Much Would You Be Willing To Splurge On A Shearling Moto ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Oct 24, 2009 9:25 AM PDT
As the air starts to get chilly and the leather moto jacket trend starts to get a little exhausted, designers are spicing things up -- studs, built-in belts, and of course, fur and shearling-trimmed collars. As any avid shopper knows, not all trendy biker jackets are created equal... so how to choose? Here we break down a few collared options from opposite ends of the cost spectrum, because depending on your budget (or lack thereof) and your insatiable desire for brand names, a suspiciously good steal isn't necessarily the way to go when you want an investment piece, yet spending a month's rent on one wardrobe addition isn't always in the cards either. Forever 21's Fleece Trim Moto Jacket looks perfectly chic, especially with its appealing $34.80 price tag... but of course, it's not real leather and I wouldn't bet my life savings on how long the piece will last you. The Motorcycle Jacket with Faux Fur Trim by Aqua is genuine leather, but is the authentic material worth the extra $265.20? And of course, for those who won't settle for anything less than the best, the Acne Rita 2 Jacket is convertible with its removable collar -- meaning even more possibilities for long-term wearability. But it also comes at a price. A whopping $1130 price. Which moto jacket do you think is the wisest deal? Vote below on whether you'd save, splurge, or go the middle road... or just scrap the trend altogether!

Couture In The City Loves Rachel Roy's TransFOURmer Coat!

Just in time for fall, the new TransFOURmer coat from the Rachel Rachel Roy collection is not only super chic, but smart and thrifty too! As seen in Real Simple magazine, the Transfourmer coat is one coat that can be unzipped and worn in 4 different ways. Remove the bottom for a chic motorcycle jacket look or take off the sleeves and bottom for a twist on a vest. The inside is lined with Rachel's signature graffiti print, for an unexpected pop of color. View the video that demos all of the different looks the coat transforms into, then check out Couture in the City for more thrifty fashion treasures!

Essence Takes A Look At 30 Days Of Rihanna's Style

While Rihanna may have been hiding under her umbrella and taking a breather from the music scene ever since the Chris Brown fiasco, she hasn't lost the following of her faithful fans... and her fellow fashionistas! A strong girl like Ri-Ri isn't one to let a scandal get her down for long, and her eclectic and edgy style hasn't suffered any despite her tiny break from the spotlight. From LA to NYC and beyond, she's partied it up with pals in metallic leggings, relaxed spa-style in flowing printed dresses, rooted for the Lakers courtside in funky sneaker heels, and embraced her inner rocker-chick with moto jackets and a buzzed hairstyle. The Essence blog tracks her fashionable footsteps over the recent months as she enjoys the single life and gets ready to embrace the limelight yet again! Head over to take a look at the slideshow!

Video Style Steal: Pink Goes Moto-Girlie In "Funhouse"

    image
Alex Gambardella on Aug 13, 2009 8:21 AM PDT
While Pink herself is right in the middle of her worldwide tour for her fifth studio album, Funhouse, her singles and in-your-face videos haven't taken a break from their chart-topping around the rest of the globe. Her latest vid for the album's title track is characteristically "Pink" in its rebellious tomboy vibes (after all, I don't know many girlie-girls who would dare frolic through a burning junkyard, much less while dressed head-to-toe in white), yet her wardrobe is surprisingly flirty at the same time. Then again, who else would you expect to find the perfect balance between feminine lace and badass biker chick? I may never understand her love-hate relationship with husband Corey Hart, and I'll be less likely to ever have the guts to be as bold as she is, but I can at least take a page or two from her book of style! With white distressed jeans and black belted boots, you can cop her outfit pretty easily -- I just don't recommend committing arson while you're wearing it. Click "See Video" to watch the Funhouse in action, then check out the slideshow for a shop-friendly version of the full video outfit! Photo Credit: Vh1.com

Buckle Up For ASTARS By Alpinestars Women's Line

Pauline Montupet on Jun 7, 2009 9:30 AM PDT
Ready to write a page in your own motorcycle dairy? Turn to ASTARS, a new line by Italian motorcycle company Alpinestars. They have been outfitting motorist and car enthusiasts for over 45 years and started a men€™s contemporary line 4 years ago. The new ASTARS brand for women draws inspiration from Alpinestars€™ rich motorsports history without going overboard. No need to be a grease monkey in the garage or rip around the track on a Ducati for these duds. The clothes are made for watching the race, not winning it. The line includes plenty of slouchy tanks and vintage motorcycle tees as well as a few vegan-friendly motorcycle jackets that look just like the real thing James Dean wore back in the day. It provides just the right touch of motorcycle toughness for your everyday look. Take a gander at my slideshow for some of my favorite pieces, then buy some for yourself at alpinestars.com.

Which Singing Star Rocked The Badass Biker Look?

    image
Alex Gambardella on May 30, 2009 9:43 AM PDT
When it comes to leather, there's a fine line between who can really pull it off and who should literally pull it off and donate the duds to the nearest Goodwill. Especially now that summer is nipping at our heels, I've been surprised to see so many stars still donning the leather look while roaming the red carpet -- some even decked out in the fabric head-to-toe even throughout the sunniest days of late May. From aspiring rock-chick Taylor Momsen to cutesie R&B crooner Jesse McCartney, it's tough to say whether some of these artists are really digging their leather loot or are just trying too hard to convince us that they have a rebel side. Is it officially time to hang up the motorcycle jackets and liquid leggings and embrace some more breathable material, or is there a whole slew of dominatrix-inspired trends just around the corner? Vote below on who you think looks good enough in their leather to be allowed to wear it for a little longer...
