Which Celeb Rocked The Quirkiest Costume At The Met Ball?

    image
Alex Gambardella on May 8, 2009 12:18 PM PDT
Forget the Oscars -- The Met Costume Ball is the event when it comes to celebs and fashion, more specifically when it comes to gossiping about celebs and their rather "interesting" taste in fashion. New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art was mobbed with famous faces, representing young and old Hollywood alike in both the variety of attendees themselves and with the style of their ensembles, ranging from exquisitely glamorous and timeless to innovative and uniquely modern. Given that the theme of this year's spring gala was "Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion," I couldn't help but be slightly concerned on behalf of a few celebs who seemed to have inspired some rather unsavory sheaths. For example, if I were Heidi Klum (in some glorious alternate universe), I just might be slightly alarmed and/or insulted if my serving as a muse resulted in a black and blue octopus-looking number reminiscent of Ursula from the The Little Mermaid. I realize she's trying to hide a baby bump, and bless her, but... really? Furthermore, Gossip Girls Leighton Meester and Blake Lively seemed to be in a contest for most unflattering frock, Molly Sims dressed up as some kind of misshapen cowbell, and Rihanna channeled a sort of couture Michael Jackson. It's sad that the more chic costumes had to be upstaged by the wardrobe disasters, but the Met Ball just wouldn't be the same without the fashion missteps! Vote below on which costume you think was the craziest. Photo Credit: PR Photos

There are some things that make you feel good about shopping, such as supporting (PRODUCT)RED. From t-shirts to iPods, it's easy to support the fight against AIDS. Now there's another reason to support the cause! Jewelry designer and South Africa native Susan Hanover has come out with two unique (PRODUCT)RED bracelets. The (PRODUCT)RED wrist cuff features two different colored stones; one a deep mahogany red, and the other a vibrant fiery red, as a symbol of life and health. The (PRODUCT)RED stone-wired bangle includes red jade stones in round and oval shapes that are set on an gold wire. The best part is that 50% of the profits from each sale will go directly to the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Considering she was the A-listiest of all the stars who showed up at Bravo's first ever A-List Awards (ironically hosted by self-proclaimed D-lister, Kathy Griffin), snagging a minute with Molly Sims on the red carpet was no easy feat! Luckily, the super sweet supermodel/actress, who looked incredible in a Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress, did not cop an A-list attitude, and tried her best to answer as many questions as possible. Considering I only had about 30 seconds with the star, I had to make it count and ask the TWO questions that matter to all you Stylehive readers! Click READ MORE for her answers. Thanks Molly!

Web Crawl: MyStyle Thinks Some Neon Looks Are Not Bright

Say the word 'neon' and you're likely to evoke images of highlighters, day-glo clothing, and for an unfortunate few, high school chemistry. Yikes. It appears as though the fluorescent hue is back for more, appearing on the ensemble choices of Molly Sims, Stephanie Pratt, and singer M.I.A., and I'm not sure I'm feelin' it (a view that is in no way influenced by any opinion I may or may not have regarding the She Pratt as a style setter-- I'll leave it at that). Our friends at mystyle aren't so sure either, so click on over and see what they have to say. And in the meantime, maybe leave the neon for the open late sign at the diner. Just a thought.

Style Steal: Molly Sims Turns Standard Into Stellar

Anyone can find a cute item and wear it as is straight off the hanger. But a unique sense of style comes from being able to re-interpret an item and take it from basic to innovative. Just look at the ensemble the gorgeous Molly Sims wore to the Sports Museum of America's Opening Night Gala. The busy actress (she just finished working on three films!) didn't let a minor thing like a jam-packed schedule stop her from taking the time to come up with a creative ensemble.
