Hot In The Hive: Crayon Rings

    image
Anna Yu on May 6, 2009 6:22 AM PDT
Some of my fondest childhood memories involves opening up a brand new package of crayons and attempting to color inside the lines of my dinosaur coloring book. The days of using coloring books may be long gone, but who says we can't still use crayons? Boston-based Converse "idea" designer Timothy Liles certainly keeps busy outside of his day job! He recently created crayons shaped into rings that come in eight basic colors. The playful rings have a pointed tip at the top of the ring in a traditional diamond-like shape which you can use to draw finer lines. Why choose between form and function when you can have both? The rings only come in size 7, so if your fingers can't fit them, I'd string them into a necklace. Don't worry, any marks you make will be washable!

    Price: $50

Modern, Non-Stuffy Wing Chairs For Stylish Lounging

    image
Anna Yu on Apr 21, 2009 4:20 PM PDT
For some reason, wingback chairs have gotten an unfortunate reputation for being in the homes of the old and stuffy. Your grandfather may have had an imposing tufted leather wingback chair you wouldn't dare touch. But the old and stuffy were definitely onto something with these chairs. They're designed to be super comfortable and offer some great support in case you ever dose off. The winged nature of the chair gives a place for your head to rest when you start tilting to the side. Now you know why your grandfather loved that chair so much! These days, you don't have to look stodgy when sitting in a wing chair. In fact, many styles these days mesh well with your modern decor. Some like the Painted Dot iChair with built-in speakers from PB Teen are downright playful! Another one of my favorites is the Lambert recliner for maximum comfort when reading or taking a quick nap. For more modern takes on a traditional wing style, check out my slideshow!

Stately Views And Savory Eats At Charlie Palmer Steak

Charlie Palmer is so much more than your average steakhouse. Executive chef Matt Hill grills up dry-aged steak from the eastern shore of Maryland, beautiful sauteed fish, and locally sourced produce to for his Washington, D.C. restaurant. As for the entrees, don't expect anything to be too manipulated; Hill likes to keep things simple, and doesn't underestimate the ability to showcase the natural flavors of his dishes. But do expect an impressive wine selection: the restaurant boasts 10,000 bottles of wine on the premise, 3,500 of which are displayed in an innovative wine cube. Step outside to the rooftop terrace and catch a glimpse of the magnificent view of the Capitol.
