Cozy Up In Tweed Clothing And Accessories That Aren't So ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 18, 2009 10:19 AM PST
There's something about tweed that undeniably conjures up images of wintertime coziness... not to mention old-fashioned office attire and your grandma's go-to outfit for Sunday brunch. The good news is, however, that tweed has been updated to suit the styles of modern trends -- from platform pumps to boyfriend blazers -- and has expanded beyond its traditional use in plain ol' pea coats and conservative skirt suits. The great thing about the fabric is its ability to makes items still look office-appropriate without appearing stuffy, yet it can also be dressed up with metallic details for a night out, or thrown on last minute for an upgrade of your usual "just rolled outta bed" look. For some wintry-warm tweed pieces that are still totally on-trend, check out the slideshow!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Michael Angel

Aussie designer Michael Angel kicked off the Spring/Summer 2010 shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with a parade of party dresses that provided a feast of color and exotic patterns for its audience. Known for his unique bright prints and innovative cut designs, the designer did not disappoint this season, despite the fact that his signature rainbow leggings were nowhere to be found. Accessorized with flat wrap sandals and bold stone earrings, the models romped the runway in flowing silk wrap dresses and cap-sleeved minis, clearly designed only for those aiming to show off a killer pair of long legs. One particular highlight included a patent leather jacket and silk floral miniskirt combo, reflective of the designer's playful yet feminine take on modern womenswear. Check the slideshow for some highlights straight from the runway!

Steal Her Style: Blake Lively's Summery Hamptons Look

    image

Blake Lively is one of the most stylish starlets in Tinseltown -- and she doesn't work with a personal stylist. The outfit she recently wore to QVC's Super Saturday charity shopping event in the Hamptons was molto bene and perfect for a breezy summer day. Blake paired a form-fitting white mini by Herve Leger with a tailored blue-and-white-striped Oxford, and the classic preppiness of the shirt balanced the raciness of the eensie-weensie skirt. She finished the look with a pair of brown patent round-toe pumps and a long chain necklace. Here's how you can get her look for way less, courtesy of Lemondrop!

    1. Elizabeth and James Schoolboy Shirt: This menswear-inspired shirt features ruched sleeves and back buttons to keep it looking fitted, not boxy. $264
    2. Forever 21 Cut Off Denim Skirt: A crisp white skirt like this can be worn to a daytime BBQ or as an impromptu beach cover-up. $20
    3. Matisse Pump: A thick wooden heel and shiny patent upper combine to make this pump a true eye-catcher. $42
    4. Sequin Long Chain Necklace: Add some funky style to a more classic look with a fun, tiered chain necklace like this gorgeous silver version. $40

Video Style Steal: Kristinia Debarge Works It In "Sabotage"

If Kristinia DeBarge looks slightly familiar to you, don't worry, you're not going crazy. I watched American Juniors too -- I'll admit it -- back when they still believed in inflicting Simon Cowell-like cruelty upon children... and Kristinia was quite the contender. She may not have made the winning group of singers (but let's face it -- it was probably for the best), but now she's making it big with single girl anthems like "Goodbye" from her solo album Exposed. In the video for her second single "Sabotage," she dons her darker side in a cropped moto jacket and textured tights, and shows off some sultry dance moves to boot. She may have first arrived on the scene years ago as a cute little crooner, but now she's sexy, single, and stylish... and ready to kick some serious butt. Click "See Video" to watch "Sabotage," then check the slideshow to see how you can cop one of Kristinia's video looks! Photo Credit: MTV.com

Our Favorite Mini Skirts For Mini Budgets

Hemlines are getting shorter, but so is the distance that my dollar will go! I love mini skirts because they're sexy and feminine and make legs look a million miles long. High-waisted minis are a sophisticated spin on a classic, and micro-minis flaunt it with no apologies. Crazy patterns and eye-popping colors make a unique statement while denim versions are youthful and classic. Mini skirts are not only totally hot and super femme, but they're also incredibly versatile. Throw on a casual tee and some cute flats or sandals for a laid back, girl-next-door feel, or vamp it up with a daring top and sexy stilettos and watch those heads turn! Worried about the cooler weather coming your way? A pair of opaque tights or funky leggings are all you need. Be a real trendsetter and pair it with sexy thigh-high socks and a sweater for added warmth! With all these great mini skirts to choose from and the endless possibilities of mix and matching, it's hard to choose just one to add to your repertoire. Check out the slideshow to see some minis that are easy on the eye and even easier on the wallet!

Furry Winter Boots - Uggs And Beyond!

    image

The ubiquitous Ugg Boots that Oprah made famous a few years ago may have seen their best days. Still, there are times when the weather gets chilly, and you just feel like being comfy, and it seems like there's no better solution than your favorite worn-in jeans tucked into some beat-up shearling boots. Or maybe you're into that whole mini-skirt with Uggs thing, though I never really got that. In any case, there are now so many variations on the classic for you to choose from, whether they're flats or wedges, suede or quilted flannel, real or faux, tall or short, etc. Fur boots can even be dressy - as evidenced by these black Vanessa Bruno booties. So whether you're still rocking the basic shearling style or looking for a new interpretation, check out the SLIDESHOW for some cozy winter boots!
