Simplicity in design is a hard thing to achieve. To show good taste and sophistication through minimalism and to have practical and beautiful styles that are sleek and not overwhelming are all characteristics of good design. Every time I see displays of furniture showrooms, or flip through home decor magazines, I always find myself drawn to the most simple and clutter-free layouts. There's something modern, chic and comforting about the sleek lines and clean, spacious feel of a room designed in a minimalist manner. However, the prices for these pieces usually are so minimal. A house should be a home and you should decorate it the way you want, but not if that means buying the furniture is going to take the roof over your head away! I've found multiple pieces and home accessories that will give your living space the sleek, minimalist look you want, without your bank account falling into minimalist territory as well! Check out the slideshow for ideas!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Narciso Rodriguez

Narciso Rodriguez strayed away from the structured look that he's presented in seasons past and opted for a more fluid look that comfortably hugged the female form for Spring 2010 at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. His signature structure was still apparent through interesting details, including mesh cut-outs as well as pleats and gathers and contrasting colors. A seriously sophisticated color palette of blacks, whites and nude neutrals were complimented with iridescent eggplant purples, dusty reds and grey tones. The collection overall felt like a minimalist revival punched up by daring billows of fabric, transparent details and modern trends such as a bubble mini, asymmetry, and innovative prints and tailoring. Simple, looser fit dresses showed nonchalant luxury while slightly exaggerated silhouettes and lots of legs gave his collection a more edgy vibe. Take a look at the slideshow for more from Narciso Rodriguez!

In our fast-paced society of instant gratification and non-stop networking (we can't even keep in touch with friends guilt-free on Facebook without calling it "networking"), it is easy to become stressed and harried. Even weekends, the lone couple of days we had to rest and recuperate, are now filled with playing catch-up for the office or partaking in fun, but taxing activities that don't let our bodies just sit back, take a deep breath, and truly relax. The next time you get a some vacation time, treat yourself to somewhere that is fun, interesting and will also give you some time to really breathe a sigh of relief. Try Berlin, Germany and stay at the beautifully streamlined Lux Eleven hotel. Imagine Calvin Klein had designed the interiors and you have the modern minimalism of steel and hardwood in a clean and spacious area. Now imagine Hello Kitty completed a touch of the finishing details and you get the the hot pink lobby and roll out carpet, the pink and purple striped blankets atop starkly contrasting black and white, and the twinkling, spherical lights flanking the hallways- basically, de-cluttered glam in a minimalist setting. The rooms are amazing as well, with anything from value rooms to penthouses available, all of which come furnished with a seating area and kitchenette to make you feel even more relaxed and at home. Still a little stressed? The Lux Eleven provides a spa and healing center that uses different programs and treatments, as well as plant-derived Aveda products to put you at ease, mind, body and soul. Amsterdam International Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2010: ...

This has been Elsien Gringhuis' first show at Amsterdam Fashion Week that she presented individually. Gringhuis studied at Artez in Arnhem and works for G-Star Raw denim at the moment. The collection she showed at AIFW 2010 looks rather strict, with straight lines and a minimal, clean cut silhouette, in addition to lots of shiny fabrics with very well made details. "Focus" is the theme of her collection, a collection about all the stress and chaos we go through all day and the need to focus on what really matters and what makes a difference in our day-to-day lives. Although it's not certain if she will produce her collection (she is still looking for ateliers) you can buy a real Gringhuis soon at Hema (www.hema.nl). She won the Hema design contest with a raincoat she made from biological cotton and rubber coating. Click the slideshow to see her show at Amsterdam International Fashion Week!

A lot of the times, pulling off that designer look that you watch walk down the runway or admire in a fashion magazine is a a lot harder than you think! Well, once again I found myself perusing StyleDiary to aid me in my time of fashion frustration and who did I stumble upon this time, but savvy Stylediarist, Jaja. This fashionista has all the latest fall fashions and trends, but more importantly, she creates outfits that look like they're straight off the runway! She captures Yves Saint Laurent's minimalist chic look with this beautiful monochrome ensemble and check out this sweater dress, that to me, just screams Sonia Rykiel's Fall '08 Collection. Oh, and I am definitely thinking of Gucci's boho chic Fall collection with this number. Last but not least, I've been admiring these versatile riding boots that are a staple of both Jaja's wardrobe and the Fall runways. Get inspiration with designer chic looks on dime from Jaja's StyleDiary in my SLIDESHOW!
