You know you've reached the height of inner and outer beauty when you're honored by the likes of Glamour Magazine as one of their proclaimed Women Of The Year. The annual event, which honors twelve women of all ages and walks of life, took place at New York City's Carnegie Hall for its 2009 edition. Among its impressive array of honorees were Rihanna and Amy Poehler, who seemed humble to be in one another's presence, yet looked equally fabulous upon arrival! After all, if you're going to be in the company of such iconic women as Maya Angelou and Maria Shriver, the least you can do is be on your style A-game! Lending fellow ladies their support were supermodel Iman and Katharine McPhee, who were also gorgeous in their evening attire... but they can't all be deemed best dressed! Vote below on which lady took the fashion lead! Photo Credit: PR Photos

    Belt It Like Mrs. Obama

    image

I went shopping for a bit on Saturday and spotted at least 3 stylish young ladies sporting large belts over cardigans or jackets as spotted on our stylish First Lady Michelle Obama. In fact, this fall, the big belt is in thanks to Mrs. O! As featured in Vogue UK, Michelle Obama is a fan of oversized belts over sweaters, and with its flattering waist-cinching look, it's no wonder why it's been quick to catch on. One of my favorites for this fall is this two-in-one Anthropologie Puckered & Pleated Cardigan with built in wide belt ($128) which I can definitely see on our First Lady. It's available in gray, black, or bright gold. How cute is it with the soft pink ruffled shirt pictured on the model?

    Influential International Style: Michelle Obama

Ever since she hit the campaign trail in her classic cardigans, and sassy jewel tones, yes, with her guns blazing, we knew Michelle Obama was a First Lady we could believe in. Besides being one of the most highly-educated women to ever hold the number two spot at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, she is an accomplished lawyer raised with real South Side Irish roots. Moreover, she has a gorgeous sense of style. Flattering sheath dresses, fun accessories, and a mixing of designer clothing with more common retail brands are the caveats of her first few months in office. Whether it's for a date night with the Commander in Chief or to tend her garden, Mrs. Obama always brings grace and elegance to any occasion. Check out my slideshow for ways to bring hope to your closet!

Gardening is all the rage - thanks to Michelle Obama! And boy do we have some eco-friendly gardening treasures for you. We've always been fans of DIY gardening, long before it became popular (Wendy has the green thumb). These finds from our friends over at Etsy will help give your garden a new look, as well as stimulate the economy for our small independent businesses. Check out the handmade Plant Markers from ArtisanHands, or the retro Macrame Plant Hanger, by Plantelady for $35. And don't forget about your feathered friends when planning your garden. You will love the eco Reclaimed Glass Bird Feeder by RedYellowandBlueInk for $21. It is made from an upcycled street light. If you buy one, a $1 will go to the National Audubon Society. Check out all of our faves in the slideshow.

Surf Into Target For Some Tracy Feith!

As a skateboarder in the early 80s, Texas-born Tracy Feith started customizing his skate threads to match his free-spirited, punk personality. He later refined his skills at art school, and ended up working in the fashion industry creating the colorful, boho-luxe vibe -- which looks as good on the beach as the red carpet -- that has since become his signature. His new limited-edition line for Target is reminiscent of 70s surf life (especially with retro-ready prices ranging from $15-$140), featuring tees, swimwear, summery separates, flowy frocks and girlie skirts in bold hues, tiered ruffles, and prints both trippy and tropical on washed-down fabrics. A black leather biker jacket tossed over a daisy-print pinafore oozes carefree style, while a number 8 muscle tee with a print skater skirt is beach party-ready. "Tracy Feith designs for women who are sophisticated and chic [like fans Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, and Michelle Obama], but also know how to express their individuality," says Trish Adams, senior VP at Target. "His Bohemian-inspired, spirited aesthetic is a fresh take for the GO International program, providing designer fashion at guilt-free prices." Tracy Feith for Target is available starting May 17, 2009 at Target.com. Until then, make sure to check out Fashiontribes for more Spring and Summer fashion news and trends!

DIY Your Own Michelle Obama Junya Watanabe Cardigan For $46

The spectacular Junya Watanabe asymmetric argyle cardi that Mrs. O wore over a Jason Wu dress to London's Royal Opera House has further endeared her to hardcore fashionistas everywhere. To get the look for just under $50(!), all you'll need is this adorable $33 Hurley "Bailey" cardigan in Mosaic Blue, a yard of 7/8" (20mm) turquoise-colored stretch sequin trim ($4/yard), and some acrylic paint to cover up the shiny snaps and match them to the darker blue ground of the argyle. We recommend a 2 oz. tube of Liquitex acrylic paint in Phthalo Blue and a synthetic flat bristle brush ($6 & $3 respectively). The grand total? $46. Click here to see how you can make a First Lady worthy cardigan for a fraction of the price from Fashiontribes.
