New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Rebecca Taylor

Bright colors, edgy metallics and fluid lines seem to be the theme this year at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010, and Rebecca Taylor's collection on day five was one of our favorites, showcasing a variety of sweetly feminine and totally modern takes on this year's current and upcoming trends. Shiny silvers, asymmetrical ruffles and girly floral prints were punctuated with exaggerated silhouettes, giving the runway a flirty look that reminded one of a nautical space-age. Looser fits were contrasted by body-con dresses and legs were all over the place in pouf and pencil minis, tailored shorts and satin sheaths, giving the models a look of cabana-chic. Check out the slideshow to see more Rebecca Taylor favorites from her Spring/ Summer 2010 runway collection!

    New Classics: Rose Gold Jewelry

    image

Was it Kanye who claimed that he would keep your "neck stayin' froze with that rose colored gold"? He's known for setting new trends and foreshadowing the popularity of rose gold is one of them. Things that sparkle and shine are almost always a good thing in any woman's book, and gold is no exception. In many cultures, gold not only symbolizes wealth and prosperity, but also luck, fertility and beauty. While there is no denying the value of gold and it's beauty, it is a precious metal that has been around for generations. Rose gold is a new and gorgeous way to amp up this traditional jewelry look and add a kiss of sunset red to the mix, producing a never before seen luster and color that is really eye-catching. From simple chains to more elaborate pieces, rose gold is definitely the new precious metal to lust over! Check out the slideshow for stunning rose gold pieces you'll want to see in your jewelry box!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Whitney Eve

For her Spring/Summer 2010 Whitney Eve collection, Whitney Port seemed to use herself as a muse. Every single looked screamed "Whitney" and for someone like me who adores Whitney's style, that's definitely a good thing! This collection merged a downtown New York edge with a sweet and sunny California girl sensibility. Just like Whitney, it was very eclectic, funky, and had a retro reference point which was re-interpreted to create a modern feel. I absolutely died over this one slinky, metallic number! Other standouts included a cut-out brocade mini dress with a bow accent (such a great way to balance naughty and nice!) and a strapless full-skirted black dress with layers of tulle peeping through. Almost every style was adorned with ultra femme accents -- ruffles, bows, tulle, lace -- but the sweetness was definitely offset by sexy silhouettes and styles. Whitney also presented some fabulous separates, including a sharp-shouldered peplum jacket, a black blazer updated with layered of ruffles, and an oversized metallic blazer. Overall, anyone who loves Whitney's style will absolutely flip over all the pieces in her Whitney Eve line -- check the slideshow to see for yourself!

Mila Or Jessica: Which Star Shined Brighter At The "Extract" ...

    image

While director Mike Judge is known for catering mainly to the "manly" demographic with male-dominated masterpieces like "Beavis and Butt-Head," "King Of The Hill," and "Office Space," the ladies certainly stole the spotlight at the premiere for his latest jaded employee flick, "Extract." And while the two brunettes are surely stunning in pretty much anything they wear, their metallic minidresses definitely helped amp up the otherwise lackluster red carpet! Mila Kunis, the film's leading lady, shimmered in a Matthew Williamson dress and grey patent pumps, while "90210" star Jessica Stroup was glitzy in a gold t-shirt dress from Notte by Marchesa. While we love seeing two contrasting takes on the metallic trend -- Mila's soft pastel and Jessica's flashy edge -- we just can't have two queens of the red carpet! Fall Accessories Bring Silver And Gold Together At Last!

    image

Whoever told you that silver and gold were clashing colors and therefore should never mingle within the same ensemble was seriously ill-advised! Though slightly unexpected, pairing silver and gold -- especially in the same piece -- is a bold and stunning combo, and it's popping up all over jewelry and accessories trends for the upcoming fall season! Mix things up with a chunky braided chain necklace, or tie your outfit together with a multicolored stud belt, among a variety of other chic options. While I certainly don't encourage you to simply pile on all the jewelry you own or accessorize without a second thought at color-coordination, just be aware that the two metals don't repel each other like opposite ends of a magnet, and can look great layered and mixed-and-matched. Take a look at the slideshow for some of the hottest multi-metal accessories!

    Disco Fever On The Runway!

Get ready to throw on some shimmer and shine and hit the dance floor with disco inspired clothing! Sequins, beads, and lame were all over the spring runways and are still going strong for fall. The 2009 sequins trend isn't about prom dress type sequins and formal glamour, but rather scattered and broken sequins and beads that add a touch of luster. There are so many ways to get the look-- from clothing to accessories, your options are endless. Don't be afraid to pair them with pared down pieces for a cool juxtaposition of dressy and casual. Throw on a pair of sequined leggings for a sporty futuristic touch or a sequined t-shirt instead of your usual cotton tee. Diane von Furstenberg's slouchy "Stephanie" bag is the perfect daytime option, balancing shine and shimmer with its slouchy boho shape. Check out the slideshow for some more glittering choices.
