Did anyone say cocktail party? This lovely black rayon velvet dress from the 1950’s is ready to circulate, martini in hand! Black pleated grosgrain ribbon and iridescent sequins add a touch of glitz to the streamlined simplicity of the fitted bodice and narrow skirt. The ribbon and sequins trim the pretty neckline and the single pocket at the hip—and how great to have a pocket in your cocktail dress—you never know when you might need one . . . The dress is unlined, closing with a side metal zipper. It is in very good condition, with some minor marks in the pile of the velvet from normal wear, and one slightly larger area of pile flattened, smaller than a dime, on the front of the skirt near the hem (see close-up photo). The dress has been mended under each armhole, where the edge of the underarm split about a half an inch on each side. This will not be noticeable when the dress is worn, and is hardly noticeable at all.
