    Get Charlize Theron's Sexy-Sleek Look

    image
Sabrina Newman on Nov 6, 2009 12:18 PM PST
At the 13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala the always striking Charlize Theron was a true vision in black. The bombshell paired a sleek leather skirt with a strapless top from The Row, creating a sexy yet sophisticated silhouette. She injected touches of color into the look with a Bottega Veneta clutch, a pair of diamond-accented pumps and a turquoise ring. By taking a minimal approach to the accessories, Charlize kept the look polished and chic and allowed her natural beauty to really shine. A leather pencil skirt is definitely a must-have this season and is super versatile. Wear it with a sexy top like Charlize or tone it down by teaming it with a billowy blouse or a sharp blazer. How To Look Cute (And Stay Dry) In The Rain!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Oct 23, 2009 12:25 PM PDT
Looking cute when it's raining is no easy feat. It's amazing how quickly you can go from looking impeccably stylish to looking like... a wet dog (and trust me, that's not cute if you're a human). You could brave the storm in head-to-toe rain gear, but at that point you'd probably rather be drenched and fashionable than dry and completely drab. I've compiled a collection of rainy day essentials that are so stylish, you might find yourself wishing for puddles! Hunter wellies are playful and easy to coordinate with your outfits, and you can seriously wade to work in them- I know I have! A cute trench coat is a must-have- I'm loving Topshop's take on the classic topper. Kate Spade's bow-adorned rain boots would be lovely with thick-knit tights and a felted mini, and you definitely won't forget your umbrella when it happens to be clear and bubble-inspired! See my slideshow for the wet-weather items that'll make your (rainy) day!

Saks Fifth Avenue Hosts Contemporary Accessories Breakfast In NYC

    image

Bagels and lox might be many people's preferred morning meal but on Thursday, October 15, the menu was bagels and Botkier as Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a special contemporary accessories breakfast for bloggers at their Fifth Avenue flagship store. New pieces from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Chan Luu, Rebecca Minkoff, and Belle by Sigerson Morrison, among others, were just some of the tasty choices on order. Beyond the inspired idea of collectively featuring shoes and handbags to compare and contrast each designer's work, what the event also helped highlight is how very heavily labels are relying on accessories to carry them through a tough fall and winter: the vast majority of the pieces were both well-designed and functional. Take, for example, Kooba: gone are the whimsical, unwieldy shapes of seasons past, and in their place far more structured, wearable silhouettes in subdued yet elegant colors. There were pops of color within the resort pieces, of course (a patent neon orange Rebecca Minkoff was a fave), but even those items retained a classic sensibility that makes it clear this is a time when people are looking for quality investment pieces that will go the distance in their closets. Practical materials such as rubber, thick leather, and viscose abounded yet no one scrimped on style--and everything remained at a reasonable contemporary price point. Take a look at the slideshow for some of the standouts.

Warm up With Fur Embellished Winter Boots!

    image

After making an appearance on the runway at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the fur boot is back. You may recall the mukluk trend from a few seasons ago. Yes, it's back and it is part of the larger fur trend we are seeing on faux fur vests in particular as well as handbags. So it make sense, but not sure if I am ready to embrace furry winter boots again this year. What do you think of these fur festooned boots? Will you buy them this winter? The style seen on the runway for fall 2009 is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Faux-fur lace-up boot (bottom right, $350 at Net-a-Porter). A completely fur covered boot this will keep your toes nice and toasty during the snowiest of days or perhaps on the slopes apres ski? The gray faux-fur-embellished boots feature black canvas criss-cross laces at the front, silver-tone eyelets and a black rubber sole to prevent slippage on snowy urban sidewalks or while relaxing in the ski lodge. Another style is Givenchy's Fur-Front Ankle Boot, (top right, $1150 at Saks.com) and obviously not too appropriate for snowy streets, but perhaps a snow-free night out on the town. These rabbit fur embellished booties with a stacked heel will look perfect with black leggings or skinny jeans. Embrace the '90s With A Drawstring Bag!

    image

Ever since Alexander Wang came out with his handbag line, the too-cool totes have been seen on celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Kristin Cavallari, blogged about to death, and coveted by yours truly. One of my favorites was the 'Diego' bag-- a drawstring bucket bag that would have been perfect with any outfit! Alas, it's been long sold out everywhere so I've been on the hunt ever since. Drawstring bags always remind me of the purses my mother had in the 90s, so while their modern cousins have retro roots, they're totally current and fashion-forward. Drawstring closures are handy when you need to pack a whole day's worth of stuff without jamming a zipper. Best of all, they come in all different styles from totes to hobo bags! I've been eyeing the Classic Parina Bag by Gustto in bright yellow. Urban Outfitters offers an affordable alternative to the famed Alexander Wang bag with the Deux Lux Drawstring Bucket Bag. Check out my slideshow for more drawstring bags!

Marc Jacobs always has a special place in my heart for his wearable pieces that are trendy yet timeless.
