Cheap Thrills: Marc Jacobs "Special Items" That Are Worth The ...

    image

Any devoted Marc Jacobs fan knows about the exclusive special items-- those generally cheap, kitschy, and cute little trinkets that can be found at any Marc by Marc store (and on eBay, "MARC-ed" up of course). You can pretty much go in, scoop up a couple rhinestone rings, a tote, and a book, and walk out of the store having only spent $40. The best part of this entire scenario? You get the iconic Marc Jacobs carrier bag, so the rest of the world knows you shop at stores that garner a Yelp rating of $$$, which may lead them to believe you are a successful human being (or just connected to one). All kidding aside though, I love that the stores sell these items- it gives me a reason to wander through the racks, make a mental wishlist of everything I want but can't have, and then drown my sorrows in $1 keychains and $3 fingerless gloves. Click on the slideshow to see the goodies worth making the trip to the store!

Figuring out what to wear on that nerve-wracking first day of school is nothing short of, well, nerve-wracking. Sartorially speaking, your clothes make the impression before you do, so yes, what you wear does matter. Leave it to Marc Jacobs to make this decision a little easier! Come August, he'll introduce his "Don't Miss The Marc" back-to-school capsule collection, a fun mix of printed and solid clothes and accessories that all retail for less than $200. Younger fans (and the adventurous, I suppose) will spring for the printed leggings and graphic tees while longtime devotees will appreciate knit blazers and denim skirts at prices easier to swallow for students, or just anyone who wishes they were! Look for the limited edition collection in Marc stores and online at Bloomingdales.com on August 1st!

I love to up my fashion ante, especially when it's just the girls. It might be time to finally spring for the uber-cute Marc Jacobs "Love Story" clutch, which would be perfect with this Black Halo Cold Shoulder Minidress! Or I could go for a pop of bright with this gorgeous silk satin "Fiore" clutch from J. Crew with the adorable Rachel Pally "Carmela" dress. Check out my slideshow for lots of other cute girls' night out options!

Just when we think that Marc Jacobs has done it all before, he brings us something totally new. He never ceases to amaze us. He has done everything from creating adorable dresses, retro wear clothing, fun and frisky flats, chic sunglasses, must-have bags, and now he is adding another notch to his belt. The house of Marc Jacobs has now created their first ever swim collection. The Spring 2010 Marc by Marc Jacobs swim collection is chock full of all the unexpected prints and details we have come to love and appreciate in his ready-to-wear collection. His classic buckle, bows and denim all meet starfish & Miss Marc hardware with color palettes varying from soft muted pinks to neon reds and from barely blue to striking periwinkle. This adorable and girly collection consists of everything from bikinis to maillots to rompers and bloomers. The swim collection is practical for the sandy beach or even for laying out in the sun in New York's Central Park. Click over to WhatsWear for more on this super cute collection!

While we patiently (or not so patiently) wait for spring to show its sunny face from behind those looming clouds, it's important to take note of the weather we're currently stuck with and work with it by dressing and accessorizing accordingly. In other words, there's no use living in fashion denial and donning your shortest of sleeves and sunniest of dresses, determined to magically will the sun out of hiding -- you're bound to just end up drenched, freezing, or both. So whether the climate at hand is snowing, raining, hailing, monsooning, or just plain gloomy, Stylehive is here to let all you hivers know what you may have in store and how to be prepared for the weather at its worst this week. Geminis will be encouraged to brave the showers in a cute trench for the sake of staying social, Aries girls will channel the soggy weather creatively with some raindrop-inspired jewelry, and Cancers will stay productive in the face of a downpour with a water-resistant tote to keep their work dry! Check the slideshow to see how your sign can stay chic in the sleet this week, or at least until the rain goes away!
