New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Mara Hoffman

    image

Mara Hoffman put on an exceptionally colorful show (along with co-presenters and fellow People's Revolution designers Nicholas K and Whitney Port) on day two of the Spring/Summer 2010 shows at New York Fashion Week. Elegantly draped watercolor maxidresses and super short voluminous minis added variety to the bohemian-inspired collection, which also featured masculine elements like boyfriend blazers and tuxedo jackets. Noteworthy looks included a not quite neon yellow ruched mini paired with a floaty printed top, and a beautifully constructed resort style gown paired with tough-chic gladiator heels. Body-conscious skirts, one-shouldered dresses, and tribally influenced patterns don't seem to be going away anytime soon, but when they look this good, why should they? New York Fashion Week Runway: Mara Hoffman Takes Us On A ...

    image

Mara Hoffman's Fall/Winter 2009 collection showed us a new take on the ever present boho-chic trend, presenting a sleeker, more refined approach while still maintaining a casual, hippie world traveler vibe. Ethnic print maxi dresses and hooded cardigans floated down the runway upon minimalistic black heels, topped off with hair in tousled waves. Expertly draped knitwear gave way to wild printed bodysuits, and even the more elegant and reserved looks of the bunch were given a bit of edge with tassel details and DIY-esque shredding. Studded headscarves and delicate layered jewelry rounded out the piled-on yet pretty ensembles, and who could miss the peace sign-emblazoned cape? One of the more adventurous displays we've seen yet, Mara Hoffman's collection delivered a whirlwind escape to an exotic place, if only for a few minutes.

Blaze A Trail in Bold Yellow Like Eva Mendes

    image

At the London premiere of The Spirit, the always stunning Eva Mendes was the standout star thanks to her strapless yellow Bill Blass dress. The dress itself, which fit Eva to perfection, would be gorgeous in any shade but the yellow orbited the look to show-stopper status. What I especially love about this ensemble choice is that the color is highly unexpected, especially in the dreary winter months, adding an element of adventurousness- always an added bonus in the world of fashion! It's almost New Year's Eve, a night that is all about getting noticed, so why not take a cue from Eva and go brazenly bold with a frock in a not so mellow shade of yellow!

NYFW Trend Alert: It's All In The Accessories

    image

The overarching feel of the fall/winter 2008 collections was sleek sophistication mixed with high-impact glamour, mostly due to the fact that almost every designer had a serious case of accessory-fever. Almost all the looks in the shows were paired with either hats (from beret€™s, to brim hats, to knits, to fedoras, to small hats, to big hats, and so much more), fancy hair pieces, fur boleros, layered necklaces, long leather gloves, and/or belts (either super-thick or super-thin but always super sleek- either individually, several at a time, or all piled on in a single look).

NYFW Runway Report: Mara Hoffman Gets Cultural

    image
Sabrina Newman on Feb 10, 2008 11:16 AM PST
Inspired by the €œjourneywoman going through different deserts and lands and collecting different textiles€ the Mara Hoffman fall/winter €™08 collection was completely accessible, wearable, and contained something for everyone. From funky hoodies, to belted trenches, to sheer blouses, to flowy frocks, to super skinny pants, to belted sweaters, to monochrome to bold patterns- each look in this eclectic collection was infused with a cool laidback rocker-chic culturally-inspired essence. We saw the swingin€™ 60€™s revived with bright bold patterns, and hints of haute-hippie with the brown leather, too cool aviator shades, and earth-inspired hues, plus touches of the wild wild west with long leather vests that resembles gun-holsters- all of which were updated with the sky high stilettos and incredible riding boots matched with each look.
