    WhatsWear Trend Alert: Simple Makeup

    image
Ida Hsiang on Nov 3, 2009 5:30 AM PST
Today, it is all about going au natural. Gone are the days of heavily done eyes and foundation. Makeup is no longer meant to cover skin, but complement it. Less is more and subtle is the way to go for spring/summer 2010. Instead of dramatic eyes, opt for just mascara and a highlighter in the corners of your eyes for a light and refreshed look. Swap out your foundation for a light bronzer. Heavy makeup will never stand up to the heat. A notable example of trend could be seen on the Miu Miu runway at Paris Fashion week. Models were done up in natural makeup, leaving little to the imagination. They even skipped the bronzer!

It's always hard to dump someone. There are hurt feelings and harsh words, maybe a few tears, definitely some cocktails and desserts smothered in chocolate, caramel, and Oreo cookie crumbles. Well, get out the Edy's, Sephora. Everyone knows that Sephora and I (and Sephora.com) have been going steady since I was 15, but we're currently on the rocks. There's a new makeup store in my life, and its name is BeautyTicket.com. Yup, although Sephora was the love of my life, I just can't control my feelings for this much better beauty stop that recently rocked my world. But it wasn't just a one night fling; this is serious. I'm falling in love. This amazing website carries super great brands like YSL, Smashbox, Stila, Tarte, Urban Decay, and Pop, for up to 85% off. Wow. I'll give you a minute to think about how freakin' amazing that is. I'm talkin' Smashbox wooden 4-shadow/blush palette, originally $45, now $19.00. Lipsmacker Exfoliants and More Drugstore Bargain Beauty Bump-Ups!

To look pretty on less cash, you could yoink your roommate's fancy conditioner and hope she doesn't notice. Or you could try out these drugstore and designer beauty bait-and-switches. Either way, you'll look so good only your stylist will know for sure what you did!

    1. Color formulas are generally the same among mascara products, so no need to spring for a department store version. Black is black at $7 or $20. But it is worth investing in a clean mascara wand or comb that you can use to separate your lashes before the cheaper one dries.

    2. Instead of giving yourself a spritz of pricey perfume, get a more subtle version of the scent all over your body. Spend less for the fragrance's body lotion or cream and blend with unscented generic-brand lotion.

Dolce & Gabbana Launch Luxury Cosmetics Line

    image

Dolce & Gabbana, one of the world's top luxury brands, has launched its much-anticipated cosmetics line for early next month. By adding this line, the company will now be a full-fledged beauty house and will be competing with other high-end make-up lines. Dolce & Gabbana already has a very successful fragrance line, so a cosmetics line was a natural next step. Stefano Gabbana stated, while being interviewed by WWD in his elaborately richly decorated drawing room of his office, that he and Domenico Dolce have wanted to do make-up for years now. It's a new direction unlike fragrance. The inspiration for the make-up is derived from the collections. "We see make-up as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the line like we worked on a clothing collection- you can change make-up like you change your clothes, depending on your mood," Gabbana added. The sources for inspiration are very familiar to Dolce & Gabbana and the colors are very rich and bold...

Add Some Punch To Your Summer Look With A Bright Lip Color!

    image
Pauline Montupet on Jul 8, 2009 10:17 AM PDT
This summer is about the extremes, from the brightest colors to head-to-toe nudes. The same was true with beauty trends. It's time to say buh-bye to the black lipgloss trend of fall and winter (that never really caught on anyway) and hello to brights! Pastel pinks, hot pinks, light corals and neons are all the rage for lips. Fiery coral was seen at Proenza Schouler and bold pink at Hussein Chalayan. It's hard to go wrong with these bright shades, as long as you find a shade that works for you. Lip stains offer a light pop of color that stays on for hours. Try Stila's new Mango Crush Lip and Cheek Stain that has natural mango extracts that react to your pH levels to give you the perfect shade of coral. Lipsticks also provide a nice creamy matte bright color. Try ones with lots of pigment like Lancome's Color Fever Roses Lipstick. If you're a little iffy to commit or want to try something a little more sheer, try a lipgloss with a subtle tint. YSL also has a limited edition palette of lipsticks that includes both a bight pink and bright coral and lighter pink glosses that will cover all your bright basics! Check out the slideshow to get the look style-setters from LA to New York have already embraced.
