Grey Is Denim's Latest Color To Crave

    image

Last year's colored denim craze didn't exactly have me jumping for joy- I find electric blue skinny jeans absolutely terrifying. J.Crew has a knack for making denim look positively adorable in all sorts of pastel shades, but I'm convinced the appeal is all in the masterful styling and not the denim itself. So basically, while I want to like colored denim, I just can't. Besides, I prefer to think of denim as a canvas for the rest of my outfit- the more minimal, the better. The occasional distressing, fine. Studs and rhinestones, no thanks. So when I came across a crop of dusty grey denim at Madewell, I couldn't help but think I was on to something. Sure, they weren't your typical jeans, but they weren't your basic blue jeans either. They were noteworthy, but neutral all at once- in a word, they were perfect. Get Distressed And Ripped Denim For Summer

It seems like only yesterday that we were all wearing flannel and ripped denim (remember the grunge scene of the early 90s?). I used to go down those rough cement slides in the park to get the perfect distressed look. Those days are long gone, but ripped denim is no one hit wonder! We've seen celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens and Victoria Beckham wear their ripped jeans in style. From super short shorts to flirty skirts and jeans in different cuts, there's a ripped style just for you. You can get a super destroyed jean with big holes and tears like this bleached pair from Oak. If you're like me and like a more subtle look, pay attention to pieces with distressed edges and smaller rips and tears. After all, those little rips can always be made into bigger ones. Check out my slideshow for more ripped denim, from less than $15 to $200, that you'll want to rock all summer long.

    Casual, Low-Key NYE Party Looks!

New Year's Eve is quickly approaching, and it looks like a lot of the party planning is actually party outfit planning- dress, heels, jewels, clutch, the whole deal! But since I'll be spending New Year's with a bunch of friends in a cabin in the snow, I'm going to leave the sparkly Betsey Johnson dress at home and slip into something a little more low-key. I'm thinking cozy-chic knits, slouchy boots, and just a bit of added glam- you get the idea! AKA New York's cashmere sweater dress is perfect for those parties where you're never sure how much to dress up- the silver lame skirt is a festive, no-fuss touch. If your plans call for not much more than a tee and jeans, add a vintage-inspired belt or a glitzy headband to jazz things up! Click the slideshow for easy outfit ideas and tips for a low-key, high style New Year's celebration.
