Rock Sexy Stripes Like Leighton Meester

    image
Sabrina Newman on Sep 3, 2009 4:24 PM PDT
At the Teen Choice Awards, Leighton Meester rocked a fashion-forward look that was both sweet and sexy. The "Gossip Girl" star wore a funky striped dress from Louis Vuitton, which was accented with ruffle details adding a flirty sensibility. She gave the look a sexy kick with red Brian Atwood pumps and an edgy black cuff by Cathy Waterman and rounded out the mix with a dainty pair of earrings. Stripes are super hot right now and can work for anyone, no matter your style. When wearing graphic prints, it's usually best to keep everything else relatively simple to avoid sensory overload. You can pair a striped frock with a few standout pieces like Leighton, go bold with piles of accessories, or keep it simple and team it with basic pumps. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get Leighton's look!

Pump Up The Stam With V Magazine's Eighties-Inspired Editorial

Jessica Stam stars in an awesomely eighties-inspired spread in this month's V Magazine, on newsstands tomorrow. The editorial showcases Stam working out in some of fall's hottest looks, with an equally hot trainer, because everyone knows you should never stretch in a Balmain jumpsuit alone. You could pull a thread, or possibly a muscle. Other exercise ensembles include a Marc Jacobs sweater and boots, Adidas by Stella McCartney leggings layered with Chanel leg warmers, and a pair of seriously fierce Louis Vuitton over-the-knee boots that will scare off anyone who may be inclined to steal your spot on the elliptical machine. We're not sure whether we're more motivated to shop or sweat after a peek at the photoshoot, but we'll be getting in our cardio somehow, that's for sure. See the slideshow for a preview of the spread, and be sure to pick up this month's issue of V magazine tomorrow!

Back To The Classics: Our Top Five Designer Handbags

    image

It seems that after many seasons of excess and "it" bags, the fashion industry has come back to reality. It might be the sobering effects of the economic downturn that's making us look towards the classics. Then again, most of us could never actually afford a new designer bag each season to begin with. So instead of using your tax return on a few trendy items that will make you wonder why the heck you bought them come the next season, put your money into something that will last. Classic handbags never go out of season and look good with nearly every outfit. Yes, they may cost quite a lot of money, but these top designer bags are impeccably made and will last you nearly a lifetime. Don't believe me? I have an old Chanel purse from my grandmother to prove it. The Chanel 2.55 bag is the traditional flap bag. It was first introduced in February 1955 by the ever-practical Coco Chanel, who wanted a hands-free bag with a shoulder strap. The 2.55 comes in one size only, but it's the perfect size, small enough for evening, yet big enough to also use during the day. With its classic shape and iconic status, the Hermes Birkin bag is the holy grail of handbags. The wait list may have died down since its feature on "Sex and the City", but if you don't want to wait or pay full price, eBay and Portero.com are great places to look for them second-hand. No one can argue that the Louis Vuitton Speedy is a classic-- it has been Louis Vuitton's best selling bag since Audrey Hepburn made it popular. Get it in the black or colored Epi leather to avoid getting sick of the logo. Some newer additions to the classic bag line up are the Yves Saint Laurent Muse bag and the Bottega Veneta Intrecciato bags. The Muse was introduced in 2006 and has been a bestseller ever since. The Intrecciato bag from Bottega, otherwise known as the woven bag, is buttery soft, beautifully made, and has become an instant classic, with has a slightly lower price tag than some of the other investment bags. Influential International Style: Victoria Beckham

    image

Victoria Beckham, or Posh, as she was first introduced to us as a Spice Girl, has been renowned for her fabulous fashion sense since the mid 1990's, overshadowing her music and acting career (Spice World, anyone?). She's worked the catwalk for Cavalli, and has been the spokeswoman for Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs, not to mention starting a very sucessful limited-edition denim line, VB Rocks, for Rock & Republic. Last year, her full line debuted during New York Fashion Week to much critical, not to mention commercial success. As for her fashion sense, Beckham has a few golden rules, and recommends dressing "virginal sexy." As the sky-high-heel and minidress proponent said to The Independent last year, "It's great to make a statement now and again, but try and stick to a few classic guidelines. I always think if you're revealing lots of cleavage, you should have your legs hidden. Or if you want to show some leg, wear a jumper dress on top. Don't let it all hang out; it's much sexier to leave a little to the imagination." Check out my slideshow for ways to adapt Posh's style to your wardrobe! Photo credit: PR Photos
